Seonaid, if you have the MM (which I suppose you do, considering what you just bought ), the elf variants are really very similar to those in the MM (with the above name changes).

Best racial fit (also from barbarian description in the FRCS) would surely be wild elf, altho those are not really native to the North and from your description it also sounds that she would rather be an unusual kind of barbarian, so wood elf or moon elf probably fit the best all things considered.

If you are from The North (the area that includes Silverymoon), you get the following exciting things:

Free Languages: Chondathan, Illuskan
Available Bonus Languages: Dwarven, Elven, Giant, Goblin, Midani, Orc
Available Feats: Foe Hunter, Saddleback, Survivor
Equipment:
Choice A) Studded Leather Armor (Masterwork) and Potion of Hiding
Choice B) Battleaxe, Heavy Mace, or Longsword (Masterwork)

Note: You can sell an item you don't want for 50% of it's value.

Ok, so I'm $110 poorer and 5 source books richer, but none of that counts the FR campaign setting. I did manage to pick up the Underdark accessory, but no main book. Therefore, I have no idea what type of elf I would be, and if there is a certain type that would be useful either to the GM or another player, I'm up for anything. I also don't know what my regional gear, etc., would be, since I don't have the book, much less a region.

I would suggest a Moon Elf or a Sun Elf. Either one is perfect for the area. Wild elves are not from the area, though I could put some in if you wish. Judging from background, I would suggest Moon Elf.

Regions available to Moon Elves are The Dalelands, Evermeet, the High Forest, the North, Silverymoon or the Western Heartlands. Since you probably do not know about these areas, I would suggest either being from Silverymoon proper or from the North in general. Let me know what you pick and I will set you up with regional gear. Though, with my liberal equipment selection, this is not so important.

As for the $110 in new books...I remember those days.

Ok, I would prefer not being from a major city. Unless I change my background, it would probably be a fairly secluded place, or a group that is rather isolationist. Other than that, I have no preference.

Given your history, I suggest that you are a Shield Dwarf from the North Region. I will pick a city for you, though Citadel Adbar is the most famous shield dwarven city and most likely where you are from.

Shield Dwarves get either a (Dwarven Waraxe or warhammer), or a (Breastplate and a potion of Cure lightwounds).

Yes but only if you are human or half-elven. If you are an Elf, halfling or a Dwarf you get the racial equipment for the race, not the region.

OK, you are a Moon Elf from the Moonwood. For Elven equipment take the Scroll of Barkskin and Cure Moderate Wounds as the others are munane equipment and you can have that anyway.
