The interesting thought that popped into my head, was what if I re-envisioned an old character. Say maybe start Xalandra over at 1st level or somesuch. Maybe just a similar character with a new name. It would be an interesting experiment. I never got to play her from level 1 to 11. I'm sure in a different campaign, she'd turn out completely different.
I sure don't want to squelch your creative ideas, but if you do something like that I would just prefer not to know it. For me, re-hashing characters or reviving them in some other way has never worked and always feels stale and stagnant. It might work just fine for you, but I would think about it first.
I think I can speak for Vince here, too, but I think he and I always conjured up (unconsciously) some aspect of our own characters that needed to be explored and channeled these characteristics into a D&D character. In this way our characters were always different and represented some different part of us that lived or needed to live. In this way also, we never got stagnant. Of course there are inevitable similarities between characters, but this is to be expected.
Not to get too philosophical, but this is just how I have noticed I play over the years. I am not saying everyone has to play this way. I am only saying that sometimes reviving old characters can leave one with the nagging feeling that something is missing, something one cannot immediately put a finger on.
Okay, I am drifting. Just don't tell me, okay? I want to do something completely new. I have no idea what it is, but I am sure it will be interesting precisely because I have no idea what will emerge until it finally does!
