D&D General Gameplay Trailer for D&D Dark Alliance Video Game

I'd forgotten all about this, but it was one of the 7 digital Dungeons & Dragons games mentioned in February of 2020. It's a console game which launches in June, and you can now watch a gameplay trailer of it.



The game features a Drizz't and his friends, and you get to fight frost giants, beholders, and white dragons in Icewind Dale. You can pre-order it now.

I'm not really sure about the tone here. We've got Drizzt, Bruenor and so on (I presume) and yet this we have people giving the finger as they sink into lava, giants (?!) with jamming on guitars, heavy-metal style and so on. I mean it's kind of fun but kind of weird.

It's the age group of the lead developers, I suspect. I would bet money that, just like at Blizzard, it's a bunch of Gen X dudes who grew up on hard rock and metal making it, which affects the aesthetic.

As a fellow Gen Xer, the trailer made me smile and laugh.

Most gamers wont care if the game has Driizzt or any other novel character in Dark Alliance with this tone. Just sayin.

I'm sure there are Drizzt purists out there, but they're vastly outnumbered.

While it still could be fun as heck, I can't help but feel that it looks more like a previous gen than a next gen game.

The too-bright lighting and shiny skin everyone has made me think the same thing. Not dealbreakers, but noticeable.

It looks very... 3-dimensional. I'm having trouble seeing the bones of Gauntlet in it.
