games

Yeah, I'd like to get into a nice Eberron game. After reading Races, I'm split between playing a Shifter Barbarian or a Warforged..well anything.

Was there any kind of game in particular you were looking for Bluecloud?

Well I was aways fond of monks so i figured my first pbp would be something i am familiar with to make it easier. I was thinking about playing the abandoned half-elf gone lawful neutral monk searching for his past but ending up finding his true self and power. Of course i am usually open to anything or any challenge. =)

in response to the pbp DMing i have always wanted to try DMing are you saying that it would be easy for me to start off with a pbp game than to start off running an in-person or do people here really look for experienced DMs?

Heck there have been plenty of new DMs that get their feet wet here. The slow pace helps. If you want to try it, try here. People are very forgiving of first-time DMs.

Now Bluecloud, are you familiar with Forgotten Realms? Do you have any of the books?

Aww...looking for another FR game Isida? I have way too many FR books for my own good (nearly all of them, even the novels that my little brother buys and I borrow). Maybe I'll run one soon...

sadly the only experience i have is phb basic stuff. in all honesty i havn't played in a while and when i did it was always very relaxed and heavy roll playing. I fear i may be considered a newbie lol. currently all i own is the phb and the DMG for 3.5

As Isida said, there are more than a few people who start DM here for the first time. I'm one. The slower pace is a good thing in this, there is no need for any on the spot decisions. You have time to consider your responses, review the rules, ask your grannie.

What people really look for is commitment, and consistancy. In my experience, there is always a market for 'regular' dnd games, and enough people around to make the more unusual setting/rules/ideas doable (like some wierd ass homebrew classless grim and gritty rules game). There are a number of ways of setting up a game. Take a look at some of the opening pages of the ooc threads to get an idea of some of the options. Off the top of my head, some things to think about:

- Selection process: by expressions of interest? by completed character? by closed submission?
- Accepted resourses: Core books only? The Complete XXX? Other material only by request?
- Level?
- Race/class/alignment restrictions?
- Stats: point buy? online dice roller? set stat arrays?
- Starting Gold?
- Starting equipment and magic restictions? Some DM's set a max amount that can be spent on a single item.

I've generally found a opening post that sets the scene somewhat tends to generate more interest than a straight technical breakdown of the recruiting and generation rules. But again, take a look around and see what appeals.

have fun

thotd.

Ah. Very well then, I shall start a basic PbP game that only uses the core rule books. You have a reserved spot Bluecloud. I hope to have the official out of character thread up in an hour or so.

wahoo your the best. i read quite a few posts heralding you and now i know why! thanks for the spot you won't regret it.

Also i don't understand that whole buying stats thing i guess it may be that i am probably one of the few players that actually likes having a few negative scores. its makes the game challenging and more real i say. but i guess there are just too many untrustworthy people that want to munch?

also just in case i have to, can someone explain the buying stats process or direct me to a place on the site that explains it.

Its the first thing dealt with in the Characters chapter of the DMG. Sorry, don't have a page number for you, but that should help. :)
