Gamma World: What version

Well there you go Tsyr. You officially have recomendations for 1st/2nd, 3rd & 4th Editions of GW! Did that help clear things up for ya? :D

...and remember

Avoid 5th Edition at all costs!

Wow I just realized that GW would be great for running a Futurama campaign!!

Who wouldn't want to play a 20th century slacker pizza delivery boy while surrounded by mutants, aliens & freaks!!

Surely Planet Express will need a new crew once Fry, Leela, Bender & Dr. Zoidberg are eaten by aliens during a delivery. :)

I still think the first edition was the best. Also, the game that it's supposedly based upon, (Metamorphosis Alpha) has been re-released, in a new version (although the first volume has no mutants, and the supplement wasn't out, last I heard).

I'll admit to having never even SEEN 1st, 2nd, or 3rd edition...sorry (which is weird, considering how large and obscure my collection can be, at times). I got involved with 4th ed only.

Let me state I love 4th ed, still...to this day. Period. :D

To me, that was Gamma World, as that was my only experience with it. I never bought 5th ed (Yay for me!), and have not picked up GWd20.

But I will. I liked what I saw, and I like the look of the line up of supplements.

See, my name is Shane Murphy,...and yes, I am still addicted to Fallout.

4th ed doesn't fill that need to WANT to play an RPG based on Fallout. To me, GWd20 reeks of Fallout influence. Thus, IT MUST BE MINE!!

So, I will say I am a fan of 4th ed and GWd20 for two different reasons.

But, I think that's what makes re-imagining games fun, you can enjoy each one for something different, and game to your heart's content. :)

(PS I own Omega World, but have yet to really read it, sorry :( )

I've never played GW in any adition so perhaps I have not busines sposting, but I'll agree with Baraendur, unless you must play a game this weekend I'd wait for some real reviews of GW d20 to be posted, or look at it yourself.

I'm not saying it's gonna be good just becasue it's d20 but S&SS are pretty good IMHO and they have all the previous editions to learn from.

Ok, I picked up 4th edition on ebay, still watching a second and third edition auction on the offchance I might buy them all to compare.

Now, until it arrives...

I can see SOME D20 similarities in the character sheet, but... How hard would you say it would be to teach Gamma World to a D20 player, who has never played much outside D20 (A little whitewolf, which doesn't help for this)? Enough that I could explain enough for him to get by while other people were generating characters?

I ask because as a group we want to try out Gamma World, but one of our players lives a fair bit away, and we normaly only see him for game nights... So while the rest of us could get together easy enough to learn it, he wouldn't.

Having JUST re-read 4th ed last night, it's VERY similar to d20. AC works the same, you have hit points, THAC0 works like d20 not the MESS that was previous editions...

It's really simple, actually! :)

Shame you already ordered the game Tsyr. I was going to recommend Darwin's World as being the ideal marriage of D20 and the spirit of the original Gamma World.
