As far as I know they haven’t said. My money is on one of the existing mostly-blank canvas settings like Mystara or 4e’s PoLand.
I'm betting on 50th Anniversary nostalgia, and hanging on to #GreyhawkConfirmed

It would fit the bill of a short (original "complete" setting was a 32 page book) with lots of room for development by a DM, and a Greyhawk foldout map would bring a few reluctant eyeballs to the DMG at least.

Rationally, I know it won't be Greyhawk, but I want to believe! :alien:
Well, I'm not sure what else would fit as well: it sold huge numbers back in the day (per Ben Riggs), so will bring in some 1E, 2E and 3E nostalgia crowds, and unlike the FR it is both (1) a bit sparse for a full product release and (2) something that could be done justice as an example to star off of in the DMG.

Seems way more likely than the more Niche Mystarra or Nerath, and FR will no doubt be getting some more fulsome prodict treatment soon. Greyhawk seems the most likely candidate, if it isn't something new (though Perkins already hinted it's not new in his previous DMG overview video).

Ive made my point that this isn't a good way to design a game. Argue the point and skip this pointless side argument.
Let me tell you about an old computer science problem. You have a grid representing height and you are trying to find the tallest mountain. Looking at the heights right around you and then moving the the highest and trying again - iterating - will find the tallest point of your mountain eventually. However, you have no idea if you started on the tallest mountain, so all you've found is the local maxima. Trying multiple other points and putting in some effort to climb them, even if you "put some time into checking and them discard the results", is a much better way to actually find the tallest.

My dream for an edgy late 90s Sword and Sorcery setting lives?!

Your constant negativity is driving me nuts,

And, for the record, signal boosting problematic posts in this fashion:

Is also not OK.

Everyone playtesting the UA is already familiar with the 2014 version, and can ONLY rate the UA version with how much they like the UA relative to the 2014 version. They ARE testing a comparison. It's the only thing anyone can know for sure about the process.
I'd even argue that the following would yield much more reliable results, forget all the 1 to 5 and how to interpret them nonsense.

1) do you prefer this over the 2014 version yes/no
2) if yes, is it good enough as is yes/no

That's it. Given the playtest experience, you should rate everything 5 you want to keep and everything 1 you do not, anything else is you fooling yourself / screwing yourself over.

because being upset about something that then gets fixed requires people to remain upset
Whether or not the issue has been fixed remains to be seen. Throwing 5e into CC doesn't actually address the crux of the issue which has to do with WOTC management and what they're still intending to do with the game.

And Id even go as far as to argue their willingness to throw 5e itself basically away is an indicator that things may actually get worse in that regard rather than better.
