Gencon Marvel RPG

Will Marvel comics be at gen con so they can demo their new game? I did not see them listed. Or does a third party publish that game?

I've never heard of it, I'm afraid. There was a Marvel Super Heroes game a long, long time ago but I've heard nothing about a new one.

Well, there we go! The mystery is solved by a quick visit to marvel.com. Who'da thought?

Thanks, Dimenhydrinate. Hopefully that answers bolen's question. :)

I saw the game and an X-men expansion at the local store today. The book looked nice, didn't get to actually sit down and read it though.

I bought the core Marvel book a couple of weeks ago. It's a great book. Nice system. Doesn't depend on luck. You allocate stones (energy) into your powers. Certain abilities let you switch these around on the fly. i.e. spider sense let's you readjust your point allocation after you see what your opponent is doing.

A lot of the iconic Marvel characters are in the book, stated out. Spidey, Iron Man, Silver Surfer, etc. It's also pretty simple to build your own superhero with their rules.

I haven't GM'd this yet but I would highly recommend it if you're into Marvel, or even if you just like looking at new systems.

The group I game in is currently playing a super heroes game in this system. I had my doubts (it being diceless), but to my suprise it is alot of fun. Very easy to play, and very quick combat rounds.

If you want more information on the system, our DM has setup a message board for the system (to the best of our knowledge this is the only message board on internet currently devoted to the system) @ http://murpg.proboards19.com/

The game was developed by QED for Marvel. Look for them as well.

Here are the URLs to the games forums and mailing lists:

QED is here:

But lists no information about the game.

It's quite good, with a solid mechanic based on the idea of strategy and tactics.

In the new Marvel game the outcome of any action is 100% determined your choices. Not by random arbitrators such as dice or cards, and not by GM judgement or rationalization as seen in the -diceless- and -freeform- crowds.

It's like Chess, where other RPGs are like Chutes and Ladders.

This is not to say it's good because of that, but that in Marvel you have full control over your destiny based on your ability to manage your limited resources.

If nothing else, that is a major innovation in RPGs.

I'm still using Mutants and Masterminds for my super's game, but this one is definately up there on my list now.
