I asked this question previously, and didn't get a reply, so I thought I'd try again.

...
You are assumed to have a selection of common goods (simple weapons, light armor, non-masterwork items) for sale. These cost neither money nor Craft Points to maintain. Other items need to be crafted or bought first.
Is there anything to stop me discounting these common goods? I had thought that seeing as I didn't pay for them (since they're automatically provided by the Job System rules) I couldn't profit from them - but is that actually the case?

Tarag habitually offers an 80% discount on more expensive (crafted) items. Why wouldn't he offer it on the simple stuff?

Only if you actualy spend the craft points on them.

Otherwise, you'd put regular merchants out of business. And lets face it, they have more time than you.

OK, thanks, Bront. I thought that would probably be the case.

Not at the moment, they don't! ;)

Edit: Although that still leaves the question of whether Tarag can sell said simple items to PCs and profit thereby. I guess if somebody chooses to come to him to buy, say, a chain shirt at list price, that's his good fortune! :)

That's the way I'm going to play it, unless someone advises me otherwise.

No, you only make money on anything you craft yourself. Any other monies are made by the time aspect of the job (of which, half of it has to go towards purchasing your store). If you craft a generic item yourself, and sell it, you can make money.

You can only discount things you craft yourself.

And you can't craft anything for your store when you're on an adventure unless you have an NPC Assistant.

Umm... yeah, right. :p

Like Bront says, unless you crafted it yourself and spent the money on the raw materials, you can't actually make any cash off of it. In-game, the simple items finance the store and keep it afloat. Meta-game, it makes no sense for a store to have no weapons, but if every PC crafter made cash off the free stuff they get from the job, the system would be very broken, don't you think? :\

Right! Got it! :)

Except, you keep saying that paying off the lease is at 50% of shop income but the entry under Job System says it's 25%.

You are a craftsman, making a living on creating and selling items.
Requirements: At least 1 Craft skill at 4 ranks.
gp/week: 2.5 plus 1/4 the highest Craft skill modifier you have (ranks in Craft + Int modifier + other permanent bonuses).
Special Payment: You gain 1 Craft Point per week per rank in your highest Craft skill.
Special: You can craft, buy and sell items in a seperate thread while not adventuring. You must possess artisan tools. If you do not have one yet, you must set aside at least 1/4 of your income for a workshop, which costs 500 gp to buy.
You are assumed to have a selection of common goods (simple weapons, light armor, non-masterwork items) for sale. These cost neither money nor Craft Points to maintain. Other items need to be crafted or bought first.
And some other questions:
  1. Can Tarag count his +2 racial bonus on working with metal or stone in the calculation of job income? It is a permanent bonus but some of the stuff (leather armour, for example) isn't metal.
  2. I have an idea that Tarag would like to make his own MW artisan tools (a traditional right of passage for smiths, as I understand it). What sort of Craft check ought I to make for him? Craft (Blacksmithing)? Or could I substitute one of the related Craft skills he has - e.g. Craft (Weaponsmithing)?

Thanks.
