GMs, why are *you* doing the GMing in your group?

Are you GMing out of desire or necessity?

I GM because it gives me an outlet to channel my creativity into.

I love creating. Anything.

The best way to see if my creations work porperly and are balanced is to be a GM.

I'm not the only GM in the group and every so often I trade in the 'big' chair to be a player.

I like playing, but GMing is where the most fun is.

I voted "I do it because I have to", but I want to clarify that I *DO* enjoy it. It's just that I enjoy playing under a good DM better. Unfortunately, my group won't DM or won't DM adequately (for my taste), and I don't have the patience or inclination to seek out new groups at this point.
That said, when (if?) the current campaign is over, I believe I'll more to a rules-light game. The prep time is killing me.

I chose "because I have to", but it's really both. I do enjoy running the games, but I'm really the only DM in the group. A couple of the others have had a turn behind the screen, but they have shown no desire to run a game lately.

I suspect women might be involved, and I plan to root out this problem before it gets out of hand :] .

I enjoy GM'ing, but I'm used to a round-robin approach (everyone has a turn). In my current group, no one else wants to. Leaves me holding the bag... :)

Heck, when I asked if I should make a character to play with (in case someone else wants to), I was told that I should maintain GM'ing. Keeps the storyline consistant...

Which are you?

I wish your poll allowed multiple answers. I do it because I enjoy it, but if I did not, no one else would.

I enjoy GMing alot, but ideally, I would be GMing 50% of the time and playing 50%. None of my players has time to GM right now. So I voted "because I have to". If I was also playing on a regular basis, I would vote "because it's fun".

I completely and thourghly enjoy storytelling and DMing allows me to do this. I enjoy the challenge of creating and telling the story then to recreate it as players do crazy and unpredictable things within it.

When you see them smiling whether they just won or just got their backsides handed to them is a great reward also.

This is why I do the Storyhours also. From four I'm down to 1 but I'm still having fun and enjoy sharing it with others.

I GM primarily for my enjoyment. I love playing, too; but GMing is the only way to play exactly the kind of game I want (at the moment, anyway!).

I enjoy GMing. I consider myself a good player, as far as figuring things out and using tactics, but there's always my inner GM that wants to step in and exert control.

So it's a bit of both, really.
