Goodman Games embracing 4e!

When I burned out on 3e, one of the other guys took over with DCC adventures (he prefers playing, but will GM modules). He loves them, so this might be a great way to get a "known quality" but experiment with 4e.

All that said, I wonder why they are rereleasing the arc? Folks that have bought it have played it, and won't be purchasing the new 4E version. If ENworld Pubs. is really doing a true re-write, it seems like the would have gotten a larger audience by simply writing up an entirely new arc.
For my part, I never picked up the 3.5 version, as I had too many adventure paths stacked up (still do). That said, I would be interested in picking up the 4e version because I have nothing there, and this might be an option I would use to run it. It would be an added bonus if I could pretty much get the completed arc right off the bat, as opposed to picking them up piecemeal.

Definitely. I'd just hate to seem some slapdash "find/replace" job done. But I think Morrus addressed this when he said it was a "total rewrite." The arc deserves to be brought to 4E, so I'm glad it is being done right.

We might do a new one, too.

We're doing a 4E version of the existing one for two reasons: (1) folks asked for it; and (2) while a hefty task, converting it is quicker than writing it from scratch.

But don't worry - no find/replace - it's an actual rewrite with 4E in mind.

Soooo cool. ;)

I already picked up some of the 3.5 material (during the fundsraiser - I saw this as a good excuse to get them, even if they weren't cheaper. If I'd never use them, I at least helped EN World ;) ).

One or two posters have brought up frustration with aspect of MM. Blackdirge, what are you doing that is similar/different from what Wizards did with MM?

By the by, the cover bloody rocks:

IMO, this is one of the best 4E covers yet. It really captures the "feel" of D&D.

Well, I generally like the format of the WotC MM, and I think it does exactly what a monster book should do. For instance, I like the prepackaged dragons and humanoids, and I definitely followed that design philosophy in my book. I also like the encounter groups, although I tried to keep my encounter groups as logical as possible when deciding which monster would realistically work together.

However, there are a few things that I did differently in Dungeon Denizens.

There’s a bit more fluff text. I brought back the italicized descriptions for each monster, and generally, I tried to give unique monsters more background and history.

Also, some of the new monsters include giant version of insects and animals. Here I stuck with the basics; something I think WotC should have done. You’ll find generic giant spiders, giant scorpions, giant frogs, and some others that I think will be easier to incorporate into any campaign world.

I also tried to add monsters types that were under-represented in the MM, such as plants, oozes, and aquatic monsters.

I’ll be posting the table of contents in the next couple of days so you can get a better idea of the monsters that will be in the book. I’ll also try to answer questions where I can.

And, yeah, that cover freakin' rocks. :)

You have my money. When is this supposed to be available?

This sounds awesome. I'm desperately looking forward to another monster book (specially since we have to wait until May, 2009 to get MMII.)

Can you tell us how many monsters will be included? Or maybe I should just wait for the table of contents....
