I went to the dentist today also. We scheduled an extraction for next week. I don't have dental insurance. This is gonna cost a fortune. It's a molar. I won't be getting a replacement. I'll try to make do without. I have to do something though. I can't keep taking ibuprofen or Aleve every 12 hours as I've been doing for about a week now.
Mine was a molar, too. And my insurance only knocked off $200 of the bill.🤷🏾‍♂️

Speaking from the other side of the experience, let me say that the trickiest part of the recovery (so far) is having to be conscious about only chewing on one side of my mouth while the surgical area heals. I only made the mistake once at dinner- with a piece of bread I’d dipped in olive oil- and I didn’t bite down hard. But it did induce a momentary pain and a quick reaction.

“Don’t eat distracted” is going to be my temporary motto.

FWIW, cheesy stuffed pastas with a good sauce is a pretty safe & satisfying post-extraction meal. Even if you forget and try to chew on the other side, its softness will minimize your discomfort.

They recommended a couple of programs to help with the expense. One has a yearly fee and pays part of it. Another program will help you set up a payment plan. You can pay for it in installments.

My appointment is at 2pm. They said it'll take about an hour. I figured I would leave around 4ish. I would like to get some sleep because I'll have to work that night. I normally take things I can eat while driving. Would milkshakes or smoothies be a bad idea? I know my tooth doesn't like cold stuff at the moment. I thought instant oatmeal or grits would be good enough at home. If I'm in too much pain I probably wouldn't feel like eating much anyway.
