• NOW LIVE! Into the Woods--new character species, eerie monsters, and haunting villains to populate the woodlands of your D&D games.

D&D (2024) Has the new PHB reveals made you want to stick to an older edition of D&D, or to move onto a 5e-adjacent RPG?

We'll be adopting the new rules, but may include some 2014 rules in it. I wouldn't be surprised if we keep our on-time-luck-point-question houserule.

Yea I have heard rumours that Windows 10 is the last windows version...... ;)
I don't believe in marketing speak. Despite what WotC is calling it we are at 5.5. After that inevitable comes what ? 6E.
WoTC is saying that the system will not change dramatically in the future, like the passage to 3e from 2e or from 3e to 4e. The 5e system will remain the system of choice for D&D with revisions only every x years. CoC has done that for 40+ years.

I was happy with what I saw about the 2024 edition.

Now, with reveals of the actual Players Handbook, the more I see the more I love it!

Let me say this: The change in 5E to the new 2024 version is already bigger then several CoC editions combined. As I said in my previous post it all depends on how much you trust WotC words and in 5E bucking the normal product circle. And yet here we are with 5.5E. The product cycle cycles and WotC is a totally trustworthy company...

As DM I will be switching to 2024 core rules immediately.

My players will probably translate their 2014 characters into 2024. But if one or more want to continue with their 2014 characters, that is fine.

It’s errata editions from here on out I’m afraid.
Eventually, there will be a majority of D&D players will get restless and want a new kind of D&D. I am confident WotC will figure out a way to accommodate those customers. But that year isnt today, and is probably many years away. Until then it probably will be "errata editions from here on out".

In the meantime, there might be official 5e books with "variant" rules. DMsGuild. Indies.

I'm open to the character options being used but it's made me stick closer to A5E for pretty much everything.

I do not like Dragonborn getting inherent spirit-wings... It doesn't fit with the fiction, to me anyway.

But I'm also trying to get some of my players over to Dungeon Crawl Classics... That system is great.
