aka the character most inclined in real life who might be a tactician and strategic things is stuck behind a die rollor you can tie it into the die roll, if you're using abstract positioning.

boring nobody notices consistent that is the opposite of spot light sirIt's enough to remain consistent, while everyone else goes through their highs and lows.
Don't need to. This was done with no feats & no magic items, both of those dramatically improve martial at will and nova damage while doing very little for casters When you tack on energy resist/magic resist weighed against the nearly meaningless no effect "resistance to nonmagical dudgeon pierce & slash" it further slants the playing field towards the absurd with nova clocking in around at will on a good day. It's a problem caused entirely by wotc failing to crunch the math in any meaningful fashion while designing for either dpr assumptions of other editions. That or they crunched the math but left out how all of those things impact the result & keep trying to fix it in design. You gonna guarantee a day length...
AKA you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Just because the character is a brilliant tactician who can pull off amazing tricks under the right circumstances, that doesn't mean they can do anything with an uncooperative opponent. Not without invoking 4E-style fighter mind-control mechanics.aka the character most inclined in real life who might be a tactician and strategic things is stuck behind a die roll
A trick is not mind control and success or failure already has a die roll for any action at all in D&DAKA you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. If you can force an enemy into position for your attempt, without giving them a choice in the matter, then that's mind control. There's a good reason why such powers were ridiculed in the last edition, and removed from this edition.A trick is not mind control and success or failure already has a die roll for any action at all in D&D
When a trick inducing something fails you sometimes get partial results shrug... its even easier to notice a fake from close up.If you can force an enemy into position for your attempt, without giving them a choice in the matter, then that's mind control. You can fail either direction that is not in dispute. Also we had discussions here about the champion being inferior in probable dps to the battlemaster unless you dramatically underestimate the value of the maneuvers and assume a really poor BM playerDon't need to.
Your changing the subject to pound the same drum. Martials have the crown in both at will and nova once you use feats &magic items. The battle master being a step up from the champion only exacerbates the problem. The numbers are averages not hypothetical peak:gutter making your "could fail in either direction rather oddYou can fail either direction that is not in dispute.
