Not sure if this has been mentioned before but in the spring of 2011, HBO will be debuting A Song of Ice and Fire TV series. Each season will be about 10 episodes and each season spans a book. Obviously, the first season is based on A Game of Thrones. The pilot has already been shot and season one is in filming (or near completion)

From what I have read, they are spending 45 million dollars per season, or 4.5 million per episode. This is on par with what an episode of Lost costs to make. However, accounting for where it is shot (Ireland is one of the main filming locationss) and for the Euro, it is estimated to be the equivelant of 6.5 million US dollars per episode making it one of the most expensive shows to produce.

There are some well known actors in the series as well - Sean Bean (Boromir), Mark Addy (Knights Tale, Full Monty) and many others.

I am really looking forward to this series. I'm hoping it does for TV what Lord of the Rings did for movies - that is show that a TV series of a fantasy nature can appeal to a large audience and be successful if done well.

And just to keep this on topic with the forum, Green Ronin recently released A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying Game, which I have been reading and it looks to be a lot of fun. ;) Just wondering if anyone has actually tried it?

For those who don't know, the series was written by George RR Martin.
