Heart of Artifice: Part I--Engineered Enigma

"Mastercraft living contruct" replies Kharas.

OOC: In that case, I would go for Enthrall, that would gives an hour for Anvuss to produce another effect with some Thelanium.

(OOC: Ah. As you can see, perhaps, despite being volunteered by others as an initial LEB Judge, I don't really do Eberron very much. :o)

ooc: Eberron is my groups campaign setting of choice, lately. However, I usually neglect to use my action points. They don't do you a lot of good saved up, though. ;)

(OOC: Velmont--Enthrall doesn't look like it's supposed to work in the midst of combat, like Fascinate I'd imagine. Even if it did, it also would require full concentration on the singing/speaking. Particularly "The speech ends (but the 1d3-round delay still applies) if you lose concentration or do anything other than speak or sing." Hmm...at the same level, you could try Sound Burst for a 1 round AoE stun and some damage. Because of creature type, Charm Person and Hold Person won't work. I'm thinking of other stunning or delaying effects. Web between two columns maybe?

@Patlin--Yeah, I haven't gotten to use Action Points much at all. My major failure with my Druid that knocked her out, I asked "Could she spend an Action Point on that Will Save" to discover that the roll was a Natural 1 :()

(OOC: All but the one next to Kharas. It would definitely work though. Do note that the duration is Concentration up to 1 round / level, so again he could not use the opportunity to create another more powerful one use item, but it would stop the fighting for that time (3 rounds) assuming no one attacked the affected subjects. Of course, if one opponent makes the save and attacks someone who didn't (perhaps Anvuss if he is in the spread), that ends the effect for all targets.)

*Kharas backs away from his opponent and pulls out a bit of Thelanium. As he closes his eyes and concentrates, it begins to glow with a rainbow aura that surrounds him, and he suddenly moves at manic speed as he constructs a strange and fanciful-looking metal flute-like device.*

(OOC: He can play the device as a standard action next round. To make it cheap enough to create in a single round, it is spell completion, so he does have to make a UMD check)

"Blood and steel! The Rogue Spark is going to kill us all with his mad devices!"

*At this pronouncement from the speaking guard, the spark shooter backs slightly away from Anvuss, away from the walls and columns, and fires a shot at Kharas through slight cover from his comrade. Still, the electric shock connects, staggering Kharas with the jolt. Meanwhile, the last melee opponent attacking Kharas misses spectacularly.*

(OOC: 5 nonlethal damage totals exactly 24 for Kharas. That may present some issues as far as the device, since any further standard action will knock him out and prevent Concentration. Still, Anvuss may be able to use it later in the fight depending on how things go, or Kharas can if he heals himself)

*Anvuss strikes at the opponent who staggered his friend, and while the blow seemed to almost fall short, a sudden inspiration causes him to twist the morningstar subtly, slamming hard into the guard's skull and smashing it slightly, leaving him bleeding to death on the ground.*

"And the Clank's on a murderous rampage!"

*The two opponents flanking Anvuss are extremely lucky in their attack routine and both manage to place successful blows. However, the adamantine plating absorbs much of the weak attacks.*

(OOC: 6 Damage to Anvuss between the two very lucky attacks, 13 total.

Kharas's turn, staggered)

Seeing his blow strike home, Anvuss cries out.

"Break off, and we will allow you to tend to your wounded. Continue this unprovoked attack and he will surely perish."

(I'd like that to be a free action at the end of his previous turn, if possible.)
