I suspect the Nicholson/Ledger debate will go down as a classic as well, along with whoever takes up the mantle next.

I was actually thinking about this when they announced him as the winner. I don't think anyone will try to pick up this role because they would feel like they can't measure up to the oscar winning performance.

This is sad because I would have loved to see the Joker in another movie, not the next one, but the fourth or fifth.

Let me get this straight, you signed up for an enworld account so you could flame about your personal interpretation of the joker?

Any fan of comic books, even a remote fan, would know that a character is pretty much reinvented by everyone whose drawn or writes for him. Many of long time batman fans, myself included, thought the portrayal was a dead on hit of what makes the joker the joker. You sound like you've only heard about the joker and have never read a single issue. MOre or less like you saw the 91 movie and the 60s television show and that's all you have to base the joker on.
1. JOker is not a stock character. Again different writers, eras and artists have had a different interpretation of the character.

2. The joker shot barbara gordan and beat robin to near death with a crowbar. I'd hardly say the joker uses uncanny weapon. More or less he uses whatever he can to make it memorable. Throughout the comics the joker has stabbed, shot, blown up and bludgeoned people to death. He's worked with other criminals also who use the same established methods.

3. The movie never really goes into detail about the jokers appearance, and its quite possible some of it may have been makeup and the other from an accident. One must remember that this batman series aims to take a realistic approach on supervillians.

4. Good work searching for the one video you could manipulate. He has stated, and it has bee ndocumented that he studied estensively for the roll. To the point he believed he was going crazy.

5. This statement shows your ignornace toward comic books. I"m sorry if you'r favorite actor loss out because of Ledger, but know more about the character of the JOker before you slam him.

All this said, the academy awards is not a contest of how faithful a character is to any preconcieved notions. Many an actors and actresses have won awards based off of prewritten characters.
