Help me Min/Max a FR Cleric

I think we're forgetting that Half Orcs = Not Good Clerics.

Sure, they get that +2 to Str. Grr! I strong. But, they get -2 to Wis and Int. Do you really want to lower your class's main ability score? It's the equiv of playing a halfling fighter. Sure. You *can* do it, but do you want to limit your spellcasting?

Also, if I get rid of the Fighter levels, I won't have to worry about multiclass penalties. What other race (besides Half-Orc) would you recommend? Or should I just stick with Human?

Why not go for a full orc?

:p

I totally agree. Plus, it wouldn't really fit in our campaign. I'm sticking with Human.

No, they lose CHA and INT, not WIS. If you're not concerned about turning undead and skills, then 1/2 orc works fine for clerics.

ummm.. what version of 3E are YOU playing?
Look again.
Half-orcs get -2 to INT and -2 to CHA.

He specifically said he wasn;t caring much about the turning of undead, so those penalties are not really a hurt.

Half-orcs are just as insightful of race as any other - don't hedge them into the "duh - I'm a fighter" corner just because of pre-conceived notions from earlier editions, thank you very much. ;)

Woopsie! Duh. I wasn't paying attention.

Didn't look at the books.

Hey! I don't try and do that. I *like* unique, stereotype breaking characters (You should see my kobolds!). If it didn't make halforcs suck at being Arcane spellcasters, I'd go straight for that. But everyone knows how tempting it is to have that 18 in your stat, as aposed to a 16.

I've got one feat choice left, and I'm trying to decide between Improved Initiative, Empower Spell, or Maximize Spell.

My feats are:
Spellcasting Prodigy
Persistent Spell
Combat Casting
Improved Critical (Longsword)
Endurance
Lightning Reflexes

I also have Mettle, Weapon Specialization, Weapon Focus (Longsword), and Extend Spell from various domains and class abilities.

My initiative is already +4, so I'm leaning more towards one of the 2 metamagic feats. Conversely, I already have Extend and Persistent Spell, and I don't want to use up all of my high-level slots with metamagicked spells.

Any thoughts? Any suggestions for other feats?

How about Luck of Heroes and Toughness Dragon (+12 HP) from the new Masters of the Wild? I believe you have the requires high Fortitude base save.

:)

Why do you have Combat Casting ? At that level, a maxed consentration will be 15+3=18, and with a 16 CON that is 21 total. This means that you can autocast 7th level spells in combat, and just need a 2 for your 8th level spells.

In the same vein, Endurance is a very limited feat, and unless your campaign/story really need it, I would recommend dropping it.

As for more feats, Improved Initiative is always good, but not critical.

I would go for empower before maximize. For stats buffing it has the same average, and it uses a lower level slot.

I would strongly recommend spells focus/spell penetration. You need those if you want to cast spells at the opposition at all, and clerics have lots of useful spells taking out people (even when playing a war priest).

Endurance is a prerequisite for the Templar PrC.

If I was to take Spell Focus, which school should I apply it to? Evocation? Enchantment? Which would be more important: Greater Spell Focus or Greater Spell Penetration?

Also, is Lightning Reflexes pointless for my character? He has a reflex save of +6, +8 with Lightning Reflexes. At this level, the extra +2 doesn't seem to justify a feat. I still won't have a chance of making most Reflex saves. :(
