Help on a shield character

Yeah... the reason for Pal3 is for Turn Undead with no loss of BAB. The Charm Domain gives an Enhancement bonus, doesn't it? So it's not going to stack with your Cloak of Charisma later.

I don't have the books in front of me, but I believe it's unnamed.

Additionally, the Family Domain kicks arse, if you find a way to get it too.

Huh. So it is.

That's what I get for not owning the FRCS :)

One minute per day, but still... not to be sneered at :)

So what happens if you activate Divine Might, and then activate your Charm Domain? Does the Divine Might "update", or is the bonus fixed by your Cha modifier at the time you activate it?

Likewise if your Divine Might lasts longer than one minute... if you activate Charm Domain, activate Divine Might... when Charm Domain expires, does your Divine Might drop by 2?

Hyp - ya, you're right about the armor being a competence bonus.

Charm domain is unnamed.

Loss of 1 BAB pales in comparison to what you get.

Divine Grace does rock so hard, 1 level of Paladin is a must when maximizing CHA, but then people tend to start complaining about powergaming. :)

Or is that after the Divine Shield smacks someone? :D
Really, if you get Rhino Hide armor in there, and find someway to get a full attack on a charge (Lion's Charge from ???, Singh Rager from OA, Awakened Tiger with Pounce), it becomes unplayably strong.

Which is a kind of funny conclusion to reach, after years of developing this line of attack : that you should only include enough to make the character strong enough, but not overpowered. LOL

Not exactly a classic pure powergaming perspective, huh? ;)

The other reason for going further down the Paladin track is to pick up something like a Dire Lion or Dragon mount. Buy it an animated shield, and as long as you're within 5', you can use Share Spells to give it the Divine Shield and Divine Might bonuses as well - you can Share supernatural abilities...

Lion's Charge is from Savage Species. And again, if you can cast it and you have a Paladin's Mount, you can Share it...

I always liked Combat Reflexes, Imporved Shield Bash, and Stand Still (psionic feat so you need one lv Psion or Psychic Warrior) wile wielding a Shield and Heavy Lance (or Monkey Gripped large reach weapon).

Yep - definately, those are the 2 paths to take this Shield-Bashing character. The other would be the Cleric/Fighter Path.

I like the Paladin Path, and it's full of flavor and fun.

For power, the cleric route is stronger, from a rules/flexibility/damage standpoint, as discussed in the other paladin/Cleric thread.

The sharing of spells and animated shield is a great idea, to be sure...

If your DM is stupid enough to allow it, and you start at high enough level to afford it, get an Absorbing Shield. For a mere 50,170gp you gain the ability to automatically destroy one foe per two days with a single touch attack. I could be wrong, but that sounds pretty damned broken to me. I actually suggested the item to the paladin in the Epic campaign I just started, but then it was pointed out to me that there is no save for the effect, so I nixed it.

What "silly shieldfighting" do you mean? If you mean the Absorbing Shield, then yeah, I hope they fix it. If not, then Sword and Shield style is most definitely a viable (i.e. non-"silly") style of fighting in 3.0.

And if the rolled eyes meant I was supposed to ignore that post, pease forgive my obtuseness. :)

He means that with feats like Shield Charge, Improved Shield Bash, and Divine Shield, the shield is actually a more powerful weapon than most weapons... and that one of the mechanically-scariest TWF builds out there is a dual-shield basher.
