A side track, but to me it’s REALLY offputting that nowadays every actor have a body like an olympian athlete, no matter what role or genre. It breaks my suspension of disbelief. Why do that dirt poor long time severe alcoholic uncle have a body like a triathlon gold medalist?
Jack Black is certainly bucking that trend!

And Sean Bean certainly doesn't look like an Olympian as the Sheriff of Nottingham. He looks positively elderly!

I hadn't thought of it before, but I will have to get after my other half and son next time we see any Robin Hood movie. Like a lot of those in modern day England or with English ancestry, they are both descended from the evil King John. (In her case as a 23G grand-daughter going through the Duke of Clarence who supposedly got the malmsey wine treatment).

Those are very cartoonish, ahistoric characterizations, which would indeed be inconsistent with historical record.
Eleanor was clearly clever and scheming. That's a matter of record. Maybe she was driven by altruism rather than personal ambition? Not recorded, but personally I find simply by looking at people in power in the modern world that is very unlikely.

Yes, we have had poor depictions of Richard here and there, but it is not the norm in this folkloric tradition.
His total failure to understand anything about Islam suggests the historic Richard weren't too bright. Not to mention his preference for fighting wars rather than the nitty gritty administration of a couple of countries.
Richard was merely 15 and didn't play much of a part in it at all at first (much less as a "catspaw"). His older brother, Henry the Young King
I omitted the role of Henry for the sake of simplicity, but 15 was very definitely and adult in those days.

But if Henry II hadn't believed Eleanor's role was significant, and that she remained dangerous, he wouldn't have imprisoned her for the rest of his life.

On the other hand, all these noblemen were knights, and ergo, trained athletes.
