Highest Level 30 Rogue Damage...

Wasn't one of the design "features" of 4e to eliminate the bucket-o-dice in combat countfest?

These sample builds do not seem to do that.

Says who? I thought the intention was that rolling more dice meant more fun...

I think it was more to reduce the number of incidents for which you had to roll dice. For example, casting a spell in 3e required multiple resolutions - you first had to check for sr, then attack roll, then maybe saves, before finally rolling for damage. In 4e, you just make an opposed check against the foe's appropriate defense score, then roll for damage. :)

I agree with runestar, the number of rolls is what they wanted to reduce, not the number of dice per roll =P or you'd certainly not have all sorts of 5 to 7 w attacks and 5 die sneak attacks etc.

So how about maximum damage for us folks that use core books only AND no monster races from the MM? Who also have not and will not be buying any splat books?

What sort of damage can we expect?

additional SA with action point
slaying action, additional SA with action point
martial mastery, regain martial encounter with action point
action point, rogue's resurgence, 8d8+19+6d8, regain skirmishing strike from ap

That's 3-5 action points you're using there. How are you getting all those action points?

I didn't look them up, but I'm pretty sure that at least slaying strike and martial mastery are additional effects added to your action point usage, not replacements.

Never.

Ever.

God lord if I have an attack that can generate 22d8 I'm damn well buying 22 d8's and throwing them ALL at once... and I swear it's not compensating for anything at all.

=)

At least I can respect the desire to dump out loads of dice at once.
