D&D 5E Homebrew advice: Adding feats to custom backgrounds

With settings more frequently adding feats as part of the background system (either ones specific to the setting and background, or Skilled and Tough) I am considering changing my background project a bit. Currently I have 17 Custom Backgrounds, all with custom features. I didn't get to the point to develop TIBFs. Now that may just be a d8 of traits.

I'm thinking that a d4 of Feats specific, plus Skilled and Tough as options for each of the custom backgrounds. Would this be of interest for potential players?

Let's take the Farmer. It might be my favorite and is the second most popular.

Suggested Feats for a Farmer choose or roll a d6.
  1. Skilled or Prodigy or Skill Expert (*)
  2. Tough or Durable (*)
  3. Athlete
  4. Grappler
  5. Healer
  6. Tavern Brawler
There would be a bit of lore about why each of makes sense.
* I don't really like Tough and Skilled.

I am all for including feats as part of the backgrounds, with 2-3 options per background. I don't have time to review your backgrounds (sorry), but I am generally in favor of the concept. We give PCs a feat at 1st level anyway, and I would rather go about it this way instead so PCs can't just pick the "best" feats representing more the adventurer and not the background.

I'm currently leaning towards a chart of 7 options with Skilled and Tough in the middle, so it could be rolled on 2d4

I don't know if I would favor rolling, personally, since other than ability scores, nothing about character generation is normally rolled. However, if other elements (such as race) is random as well, it would make more sense then.

But, if your group is in favor for it, all is well. :)

Oh, no. It'll be just like the Traits/Ideals/etc. A list that exists so it can be rolled if desired, but not with a requirement to roll.

Oh, got it. Well, in that case I would limit it to 6 since the personality traits do have some d6 rolls. IMO 6 should give you enough variety without it being too broad.

For example, with Soldier, I might go with the following PHB feats. I don't know if I would allow feats from other sources for this or not.
  1. Athlete
  2. Grappler
  3. Healer
  4. Inspiring Leader
  5. Mobile
  6. Tavern Brawler
