D&D Movie/TV Honor Among Thieves takes the Hugo for best long-form presentation

I wouldn't say Honor Among Thieves is a cult hit . . . it's a real hit! It just hit theaters at a weird time and so struggled to make the kind of immediate bank Hollywood likes to see. But by every other measure, it's a blockbuster! I just hope the bean counters in La La Land can see that. It would be a mistake not to follow it up with another movie!

Should have come out this year.

I mean, it wasn't a runaway financial hit or pop phenomenon at the theatrical box office: but it has found a happy audience, particularly on streaming. So that's what I mean by "cult hit": it was a bit overlooked at first, but has continued to have increasing visibility as people find out about it.

Nobody could've predicted how BG3 was going to go. At best, it looked like it was going to get snowed-under more thoroughly by Starfield than Honor Among Thieves was by Super Mario Bros.

And, of course, trying to time your schedule around a videogame release will get you screwed over every time.
True, no way they could have foreseen how thwt all went down.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, The Flash, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and Haunted Mansion all also flopped hard in the same time frame. It was a notably bad year for movies, and a large portion is pandemic related. DnD:HAT had a pause in production due to the pandemic with unknown associated costs.

I mean, I didn't go see it in theaters because I was not comfortable yet.

I seemed to take from the OP that there was an awards show and nobody from Wizards/Hasbro showed up to get their award. Not sure if this says more about the show or Wizards. I'm guessing that the Hugos are big in certain sci-fi circles and not in corporate Wizards, but I would have to think that they got an invite saying their movie was up for an award and should have sent someone.

At least the stereotype of halflings taking things still holds true.
