Hope you like your DDI Subscription!

I find this funny because of all the people who said they would sign up for a month, grab all the issues available, then unsubscribe for $5 a year. I realize not everyone who wants to unsubscribe is doing that, but still, karma? A little bit? ;)

Exactly what's funny or karmic about it? Signing up for a month was a perfectly viable option that was allowed under the system. People that wanted to do that weren't doing anything underhanded.

In fact, I bet WotC counted on people doing it, since it let them capture some money from people who didn't want to (or couldn't) pay the yearly subscription fee.

Throwing roadblocks into the unsubscribe process is just bad customer service. How many monthly subscribers will this cost WotC in the future?

If that behavior is not a problem, why should jumping through some hoops to cancel your account and avoid auto-renewal be a problem? I mean, canceling auto-renewal is still a perfectly viable option. Nothing makes this impossibe or anything.

(But not to come of as a WotC apalogist: No, If the process is causing people trouble, it needs revisement. I do not think they really have to worry much about the "one-month" subscribers to get everything.)

Hey you guys, thanks for bringing this up. Bill Slavicsek just addressed this in his Digital Insider column, and says. “We’re aware of the issues surrounding the management of your personal D&D Insider accounts, and we’re sorry about any inconveniences you may be experiencing. In our continued efforts to improve all aspects of D&D Insider, we are taking steps to make it easier for you to manage your D&DI account. This includes improving your ability to more effectively manage the auto-renew function. More detailed instructions will be available soon. These instructions will either appear in this column or as a news item as soon as they are available. Maybe both. And we’re continuing to work on making the user interface more friendly and easier to navigate. More on all of this shortly.”

If you are trying to stop your auto renewal please follow this process to insure that it is done correctly. If you have any trouble with this please do not hesitate to call customer service at 1-800-324-6496 Monday-Friday 9am-6pm PST / 12pm-9pm EST

So please stay tuned for updates on how we’re improving your account management options.

I had thought about subscribing for a month just to see how it was...

until I found out you had to sign up for auto-renew even if your subscription was for a single month. That ended the possibility of DDI for me.

Chuck's info is correct, and disabling the auto-renew process is relatively easy, if you just follow the instructions.

If you like 4e, you will really like DDI.

Because it's bad customer service. If they're playing 'gotcha' with the one month subscribers that's not cool.

Even this 'workaround' is kind of foolish. Why should someone have to email customer service to request to be taken off of auto-renew? A simple radio button to click (or unclick) your auto-renew when you first sign up should have sufficed.

There was such a button. If selected, it didn't allow the transaction to complete. If this is still happening, given the age of the FAQ entry when I saw it, WotC seem to feel little motivation to fix it.
