I think his intention was to run Cole through at which point the embarrassment becomes a rectified honor kinda thing.

Yeap.
Agreed. Would that speech have really changed his mind? I mean, he's wanted to kill him for months.

I could have seen him saying.... You think your life is over? It's over now. .... But that would have been boring, so I'm glad it didn't.

I'm still wondering why they didn't ambush Aemond on his dragon in the previous episode. Also, how do they not have a dragon watching the blockade? So many tactics that seem obvious that no one does.
Didn't Rhaenyra say something to the effect of she hoped they would just surrender at the sight of all her new dragons? I know she only mentioned Aegon needing to die to Alicent, so not sure what her plan was for Aemond and Vhagar.

Keep in mind these folks just learned to ride a dragon today. The entire buzz of kings landing by the bastard seemed like partly he couldnt control the dragon well, and part the guy wanted to show off his new toy to kings landing. They are in no shape to face Aemond yet, let alone engage in tactics.

Those two have gone through a back and forth. Cole saved Gwain from a dragon, but also followed Aemond's lead into a battle that clearly thought little of their survival as a tactic. I think this was as much Gwain learning of Cole's position on things as much as it was him honestly trying to kill him. Also, nothing takes the energy out of an honor fight/killing like a repentant target thats like "just do it." In the face of dragons, their lives and honor just seem silly.

I get that. Still five dragons vs one ... Sometimes you gotta play to win. It was consistent with her inaction all year, though.

I'm unsure how I'm going to feel about annoying dragon rider next year..... Especially if he just stays the same.

Speaking of 5 dragons vs. 1, who was the dragon they showed flying with some troops (I think..) in the last scene when they showed all the different factions on the move? The only dragon I can think of that has a rider they haven't shown in Dreamfyre, but having Haelena suddenly riding off to war given her previous scene didn't make sense so guessing it was someone else.

There is that too. Rhaenerys (sp) is the queen so nobody wants her to actually take her dragon into battle. Especially after Rhaenys got wasted in a fight with aemond. So, the queen's dragon is basically the final gambit and not much else at this point.

Im guessing that guy is going to be the Ramsey of HotD.

They basically went from him having therapy sessions in a brothel to burning a town to vent his anger without a whole lot in between.
that's the thing, this isn't anger. This is FEAR.

Aemond is a very interesting character and he is 100% NOT MAD. His actions are very logical if you follow his emotion trauma. Aemond isn't lashing out because his pride has been hurt or he's angry. Its because for the first time in a long time, he is not the top dog anymore.

with Vhagar, Aemond has been "the boss" for a long time. Sure he had to listen to his brother "sometimes" but in reality he has been doing what he wants with an air of invincibility for a long while, which protected him from the childhood pain. "Yeah I was bullied as a kid, but now no one messes with me!" That has now been brutally snatched away. He knows that is Rhaenyra comes calling with all of her dragons right now.... he is a dead man. the bullies have come back knocking, and suddenly he is that little kid all over again.

So he lashes out, puffs his chest, tells them "I am not scared!", but oh he is scared.

I think it was Alicent's youngest with his dragon "the blue queen". They had mentioned him an episode or two ago as growing up and soon being ready for war.
