I played D&D first, but only one game. Then I played Traveller - probably less than “a couple of months” after first playing D&D. I played AD&D after that, and a little Runequest, but Traveller remained my RPG of choice through the 80s. I also dabbled with a couple of more obscure RPGs during that period, such as Golden Heroes and Ghostbusters.

Not long, less than a year. I started with basic D&D in 1983, and becm stayed my main thing til end of high school. But in my first few years, we also played some James Bond, Star Frontiers, Marvel, Indiana Jones, maybe a couple others. Plus some of us were big into Star Fleet Battles, so we spent some time trying to figure out how to bolt some Star Trek rpg-ing onto that, but without the benefit of the actual Star Trek rpg to guide us.

A few years. I started with the Red Box in 86, and before 2e came out in 1989, had started playing Gamma World, Top Secret/SI, Call of Cthulhu, and Traveller. Also Clay-o-Rama, but I'm not sure that counts.

My first game was Fantasy Hero. After that, I played D&D 2E a few times when visiting friends, but when I actually found a group and got into gaming on a weekly basis (around 2004), we were playing mostly BESM and GURPS. Later, I taught myself D&D 3.5 so I could run a campaign for an online group, but it wasn't until 5E came on the scene that D&D became the majority of my games.

If we don't count crpgs based on 2ed, first real ttrpg i played was Vampire:The masquarade. It was solid 2 years of V:tM until i played my first session of d&d. 3.5 was just gaining traction.

My friends and I played advanced fighting fantasy before I found out about DnD via the rules cyclopedia. I've mostly stuck with some form of DnD since then. I wanted to give savage worlds a try but scheduling can be a pain at times. Have played a little of pirate borg which I think of as DnD adjacent.
