How many people have you played D&D with? (Please read post before voting.)

Parameters of this poll:

1. Only count people you have played D&D [any edition] with. (Not any RPG, not D&D clones – just *D&D*.)

2. Only count people you have played at least one real/full D&D game session with. (Don’t count talking about the game, or just making up a character for a game – just those you have actually *played* with.)

3. Please try not to exaggerate. If you can’t control the impulse to overstate, go all the way and vote the top option, “All of them.”

4. If you have honestly played D&D with over 100 people, please tell us how – do you go to lots of conventions, etc.?

5. [Added after initial post] Only count people you have played face to face with, at the same table -- don't coun't online gaming, or PbP, etc.

Never counted. I think the 41-60 is a pretty good estimate, though. Although I could be missing scores of people in one-shots here and there that I'm forgetting.

Since you asked so nicely...

The nearest I can come up with is about 125.
About 75 of them through local games, not conventions.

Reasons:
1. I've gamed for a long time.
2. I've had to move to new cities 3 times in those many years of gaming.
3. I've been attending GenCon for the last couple of years and sought out D&D games.

Game ON!

Gonna guestimate
~ 20 people in the overlapping gaming groups in JHS
~ 15 (20 people in the overlapping gaming groups in HS, - some overlap with JHS groups)
~ 5 players when I gamed in boot camp/A-school/Power school in Orlando
~ 20 people between different gaming groups while stationed in bremerton
~ 10 people played on board when deployed
~ 20 unique players in college that don't overlap the high school group (as many as 12 in 1 session, but there was a lot of overlap with high school players).
~ 10 people played AD&D 2e with me after moving to MD
~ 10 people played online games on WebRPG
~ 10 people involved in my Alexandria D&D 3e group at one time or another
~ 20 people between various iterations of my local 3e groups (rapid turnover because many were military)

So BOTE guess of 140 or so. Not counting con games, but then, I don't frequently play D&D at cons, but other games. (I actually did play D&D last gencon, so I guess there is 6 more I could add.)

I once played in a single ENWorld meet-up game at one of the UK GenCons at Olympia that had over 30 players in it. S'mon was the DM.

When I take into consideration all the con games I've played, it's probably around 80 so I put myself in the 61 - 80 band. But it could well be more.

I got something like 45-50 in 30+ years of gaming; I have more if we open it up to all rpgs, but this is a D&D poll.

The funny aspect of this is how many of my D&D players gleefully left D&D to try other rpgs. With only about 5 exceptions, everyone one of my D&D players switched to other systems and never looked back.

I could only come up with 15 people in over a decade of gaming. I've only really had two groups, with a few changes to each over the years.

RPGA games tend to rotate the crop of people I play with a bit. Plus my regular games (3 of them) which is with 15 other folks gets me above 60 so far... eventually I'll crack that 100 mark. Ooops, deduct 4 from my total due to them being online.
