The way I handle drunks is to knock him out and finish his ale!
Leaves more money for... the other thing you spend money on, eh, DWARF?
Or for even more ale, of course.

Despite the fact that my weapons and armor are in desperate need of repair, I blow the entire reward on Ale and Whores!

The quickly improvised rules we used in a drinking contest:

Make Fort saves. Start at DC 5. Add to the DC for every (preferred unit here) of (preferred booze here) you (preferred method of consuming here) according to the following table:

Code:
Modifier DC
---------------------------------------------
Dwarf +1 / 2 units
Halfling +2 / unit
Other race +1 / unit

When you fail a save, you start to (preferred messy description here).

You can also add +1 to all DC's the PC attempt per X units imbibed, or let him take temporary Dex/Con damage.

Hey guys! You are forgetting one of the major aspects of being drunk!

Mildly Inebriated -

+2 Cha bonus - For that "How you doing?" effect
+2 circumstance Cha Bonus conferred on others for just yourself - For that "Hey, she aint that bad looking" effect as he looks at the homely girl

Inebriated -
0 Cha Bonus - "Howse youse doing" just isn't as effective.
+4 circumstance Cha Bonus conferred on others for just yourself - "Wow is she hot or what!" as he looks at the barmaid missing her front teeth

Extremely Inebriated -
-6 Cha Bonus - Smell/Demeanor/Slurring of words all add up for this effect
+10 circumstance Cha bonus conferred on others for just yourself. - For the "She is so fine! " looking at the Dwarf who is stealing other peoples beers.

Sorry guys, I just moved and couldn't find my copy of T&T.

IIRC, the poison was like this:

Light consumption (one beer at a time):
Fort save DC13. Initial damage 1 point Dex. Secondary damage 1d4 Wis.

Heavy consumption (shooting everclear or funneling beer):
Fort save DC17. Initial damage 1d4 Dex, Con. Secondary damage 2d4 Wis, Int.

I would be thankful if someone who doesn't have most of their books still in boxes could check that for me though.

T&T has rules on alcohol as a poison, but I can't recall them off the top of my head.

If no one else posts them before tomorrow, I'll try to look them up tonight.

Doesn't the DMG have rules for the effects of drunkeness? Why not just use those?
