How would you feel?

I would definately not be cool with something like that.

I wouldn't wait around to screw with them during the game either. I'd tell the player and the DM straight up that I didn't like it and thought it was inconsiderate to do such a thing. Directness is the best way to solve this sort of thing.

I can't believe the DM let that happen! What does that have to do with a character history, anyway? It's supposed to be where you're from, who your family is, and who died in your past to make you bitter/vengeful/sad/etc. Although I guess if the party was supposed to have known each other for a while...

I like what some of the other said. My history would include having killed that character shortly after being release...

This reminds me more of a new DM who is impatient to get to high levels and doesn't understand group dynamics, rather than a DM (and players) who has played enough low-level games that they feel comfortable skipping the lower levels so they can get to a high-level game. Is this a correct assessment?

Not a new DM but the first time I think he's DM'd for 3/3.5e

I'm really struggling about what I want to do about this. My character started out as CG. He was a slave that got pulled out of the slave ranks and taught to be a wizard because he was obviously a born natural to wizadry. He didn't like being a slave and decided to play along until he could get powerful enough to deal with the slavers permanently.

The DM wants us, as a group, to be THE heros for the land so the way I was going to work my history was to have met the rest of the group when they came after me (cause I was a slaver) and I had to blow my cover and join the group. I stopped my history right before I met the group because I didn't wan't to assume anything. I don't know how my character is going to forgive being captured and forced to beg for his life but it won't be pretty.

The rest of her story is that we have her in the group because she won't stop following us and we feel sorry for her because she's an orphan.

Must... Control... Fist... of... Death....

is she playing your character or are you?

i wouldn't feel pity for her. i'd kill her. out and out.

alignment means nothing in this edition to a wizard. ;)

When did it ever?

Although I guess it always has for robes of the archmagi.

in earlier ADnD editions, there were penalities for not playing alignment.

sometimes it involved longer training times and thus big expense.

sometimes it involved a change of alignment and the loss of xps.

Ahh, I thought you meant there were game differences between good and evil or lawful and chaotic magic-users/mages, not the penalties for switching alignments.

This just keeps getting better.... her history is that she trapped the party, made them beg for their lives and now she follows them around like a lost puppy and the party took her in because she is an orphan.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH ***wipes tears from eyes***

That is so lame. I'd tear up her history sheet and tell her to try it again. And tell her, this time, put more than 10 seconds of thought into it.....
