I DM Standing up

Any one else do this? I never really noticed toll I started a big Star Wars game, and I'm sure I didn't always DM like this. But lately I've been standing most of the time when I dm. I place my materials on a counter or sofa back so its at my level and just stand through most of the session. I think its a little odd but none of the players seem bothered or have commented on it.

I wish I had the room to stand up for RP... though I use my laptop for most die rolling, that might not be so convenient.

I don't do this when I run, but I think it would be a more comfortable way for me to do it. Being able to move about (I tend to fidget a fair bit) and have more room for body language would be nice.

We tend to play in rather cramped quarters, though.

Now we play in pretty big areas. My tueday group is small, only 2 PCs, but we play in my front room that easily could fit a few more. The Sundays group I have 7 PCs but the room we play in is huge, practically the first floor of my friends house (its all one big open room with the kitchen in one part). So, the room does help.

I have a fairly cramped area, but I still stand up a lot of the time when I DM. I consciously started doing it a couple months ago and I find it works well for me. Since I roll in the open and don't use a DM board, it's easy for me to stand and access my stuff (usually a couple sheets of paper). If we did have more space, I probably would stand all the time and move around a lot more too.

All REAL DM"s do it standing up :) On a less serious note, yes, DMing standing up really helps keep the game moving and when the action starts, you should be standing up anyway.

This is off-topic, but I jsut found the website of Glenn Yarborough..the guy who was the minstrel for "The Return of the King" cartoon by I.C.E.

I love to GM when standing up. gives me more freedom to move about, and gesture, and well, you get the idea. I am very active, even when I GM, so I have to stand up. also, my D&D DM stands up when he is DMing, so I'm not the only one in our group who does it.
