I lost my Angel "virginity" last night

Ok, I admit I do not have the typical connections that most players have:
I have never seen Buffy, Angel or any of those type shows. I have never played Everquest, Magic or any card type game but my friend/DM brought me season 1 of Angel and I started watching it and I am liking it much more then I thought I would. He also got me hooked on SG-1 (until I saw his dvd sets, never saw that show either), so I took his advise and I am going to watch the rest of the season, and see what else he has for me to watch.

So maybe I am more typical then I thought I just did know it ;) .

What shows/movies did you enjoy after it has been out/a hit for awhile?

Buffy, Angel, Smallville. Never saw Buffy until it was syndicated and I started to get it local.

Survivor and Big Brother are addictive, did not care for them but just watched last year and could not help but watch again.

I'm in the same boat. I started watching Angel early in this season, though the joke's on me since these are the final epsiodes. :(

I've been watching Buffy a while, but only on DVD. I never watched new episodes of the show when they was on the air.

P.S. Don't get into Magic. That game is so expensive and gimmicky. ;)

Now THAT - is a disturbing image. :)

Angel and Buffy are cut from a different mould when it comes to characterization, quality of writing, and consistency. It's up there with M*A*S*H and (I'll get stoned for saying it) Friends. The majority of folks I've introduced to Angel, even if they didn't like the genre, loved the writing.

I got into Buffy on its third season - I stayed away thinking it was going to be as dumb as the movie, and a friend convinced me to try it out - I was hooked after one show.

Also, I got hooked into this really cool thing called Star Wars in about 1981 or so - I never even SAW the first movie until about 1986!

That happened to me, too - I got into Angel just 2 seasons ago because NBC's Wednesday format went to heck (sorry, but I can't stand the West Wing) and I don't have cable, so the WB was the only other option.

Thus began my Smallville and Angel watching days, and y'know, it isn't half bad (though I think I'm a little more into Smallville).

I have never ever seen Buffy or any of the early seasons, so a lot of what happens is lost on me. I like Spike, though, and more often than not I find the latest episode entertaining.

Another note - if you go to www.tvtome.com (TV Tome) and check out the Angel and Buffy Sections, they've archived most of the best one-liners from those shows. One of the reasons I love it so much is the dialogue from each show.

Scene: MEG Hal is typing away happily at his computer. Suddenly, Bad Vampire Angel grabs him from behind, bites him in the neck, and begins draining his blood. When finished, Angel snaps Hal's neck with a fluid motion; Hal's body falls to the ground with a leaden *thump*.

Bad Angel: "So, was it good for you, too?"

I was in the same boat. Had no friends here who watched Angel or Buffy, but had plenty of online friends who raved about both. But I never could get past the name 'Buffy' :) Liked the movie, but the TV show never was on at a time I could watch it. I had vague new reports once in awhile from Buffy-land, but never saw even one episode.

Then I saw the Season One DVD's on sale at Suncoast since Season Two had just come out, had some extra cash, so I bought them. Instant addiction. Watched them, went out and bought Season Two the next week, pined for the time it took the next season to come out :) I did break my rule and watched the Finale. Then I watched the last five or so episodes of Angel from Season Four; went out the next day I think and bought the Season One Angel DVD's... Just finished up with the Season Three DVDs

I've thought about getting into Farscape - I've seen bits and chunks of about five or six episodes - but the price will have to come down for that to happen, or I'll have to find it heavily discounted. Like, about 50% of what Amazon wants for them. $60.00 is about the max I'll pay for any collection.
