I murdered my AV

8C

I'm a writer. Part of my heart was with that book. You sliced up part of my heart.

Really, though, I couldn't imagine losing half of the items in a book in order to make random treasure. I understand how it suited your game, since you like random items instead of player suited items, but I would have done anything but cut up the book.

I have generated stuff in the books randomly before, and what I do is I wrote numbers next to all the items in the AV. Writing in a book is much less harsh than slicing it, in my book. T) I then rolled a d20 and a d10 to make a random number from 1 - 200 (depending on the amount of items for the level I desired, I might have just used d%), and then got the item I needed. If I disliked the result, I could just roll a few more times until something good popped up. This way, I could choose the appropriate level (since they're all conveniently lined up by level) and get a random item easily. Without having to take an innocent life. =)

I selected the items I thought the players would want, added them to a character mule, printed them and handed the items out as I saw fit. About 21 items for 3 levels of play and 7 characters.

It worked out very well, the players having fun looking at their items without having to check the book for what it was. It's fun seeing your players go: "oh, I think you can use this Blue*, it looks like a healers brooch and can be your part of the treasure".

*Blue being the blue dragonborn with blue eyes and ... well, blue eyed as well. :D

Yeah, this is what I do too. Also, if I give them a custom item, I can do a little editing and give them a card anyway.
