I'll get them all... I've bought all of the previous WotC books.
Do I need any of them? No.
Some people collect stamps, I like to collect D&D stuff.

I don't anticipate a sudden rush to change from any of the groups I am in. I don't think my players (and co-players) are eager to buy new PHBs. I would like to take a look at the rules and see, overall, if it appears to be a worthwhile move. I do like the direction the MM seems to be going in. Computer support is important to me, so I will be watching to see how that pans out. And switching, if it does happen, will have to come at the start of a new campaign. So basically I chose "evaluate individually."

Also, another possible option would be downloading the SRD and making the change but not really buying the books. I doubt I would go that direction as I do like to have the rules all together and printed.

edit: about minis -- I like the notion of prepainted plastic minis, but random packs are a no-sale as far as I'm concerned. I don't want to guess if I'm going to have enough ogres or carrion crawlers or whatever.

I'll probably start with the PHB, and then get others as time and finances warrant; I don't have a ton of money to drop on RPG's just now. I am jazzed about prepainted figs ... I never play Mage Knight but you'd think I do from the number of their figs I've got floating around.

Well, I'll be getting the core three. Past that it's individual evaluation, especially on the minis - they'll have to be pretty good to compete with FDP's counter collections.

Of course, I've got to have it all. It's my all-consuming passion and hobby :)

I'm with Eric on the electronic support. Something needs to be done to beef up e-tools or an alternative (with content support). Right now, due to lack of options and support, I'm back to doing everything on paper again.

I'll buy the PHB right away. Then when the slip cased set comes out later in the year, I'll buy that. We need two copies of the PHB anyway, so my husband & I can each have our own at the table.

However, I may rethink the slip cased set. I mean, I can't remember the last time even one of the three core books was on the bookshelf. In which case I'll get all three of 'em when they come out, and pick up an extra PHB later.

We'll see.
