D&D (2024) I wish we'd gotten to see the Bard in UA one more time.

The Bard is a strictly magical concept. Merlin is actually a Bard, not "Wizard". The mythologically accurate Bard, the Bard of Celtic heritage, is clearly a fullcaster.

This limits all tales of bard to a version that is frequently called a druid -- which, yes, that's what the original D&D bard was, but eliminates many other bard concepts all together, like the most famous bard of all.

What if the 2024 Bard can pick spells from any spell list?

They already can in 2014. Magical Secrets.

I could certainly see them moving it down and expanding it a bit.

I.e.
Magical Secrets (level 1)
You have plundered magical knowledge from a wide spectrum of disciplines. Choose one spells from any classes, including this one. A spell you choose must be of a level you can cast, as shown on the Bard table, or a cantrip.

The chosen spells count as bard spells for you and are included in the number in the Spells Known column of the Bard table.
You learn an additional spell at levels 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17.


I.e. 1 spell per spell level.
