This limits all tales of bard to a version that is frequently called a druid -- which, yes, that's what the original D&D bard was, but eliminates many other bard concepts all together, like the most famous bard of all.

Therefore the Rogue subclass, Troubadour.

Shakespeare's nickname is The Bard. He's not an alt-Druid. His words are inspirational and the mystical takes on him have him as rogue-ish

Merlin didn't cast the Arcane spells of the current Bard either.

Yeah. But that guy is so old, he could have just played AD&D 1e.
And depending on the story he is a druid or a wizard.

So this is why I still want a mix of wizard and druid spells. Just saying.

maybe if it was 1+Spell Level of bardic dice returned? or even 2×SL.
