(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

Doc watches warily as the yung'un begins his work, but reckons he'd provide a hand.

OOC:
Doc is also proficient with thieves' tools, and if it works, will provide a help action to Donnell to get advantage.

@Tonguez as the strongest one here, you got dibs on the old fashioned way of doing this!

If Kahru goes to break the bands, Doc will move a small distance away and be ready to shoot, just in case. I agree with @TaranTheWanderer - Hoss should have a spell prepared as well.

There was magic here as the Squire summised but that hadnt stopped the lad from working at the riverts and the big northerner was keen to join his efforts to rip the rune-marked forge apart.

Kahru looked around to find a suitable tool for busting iron bands and then flexing his steely thews joined the work. Almost unconciously he muttered soothing tones in the tongue of druids, providing guidance to his own mind and perhaps something for the imprisoned spirit to latch on to once they had achieved their task...

OOC: So Athletics roll?
Athletics +7 and Guidance 1d4: 1D20+7 = [4]+7 = 11
1D4 = [3] = 3

Total 14

eek, so much for big muscles :(

The Colonel watches the others try to move the bands binding the forge together. Even with his crowbar, however, Donnell is unable to make the metal slip its fastings.

"Good work, lad. You tried," the Colonel says reassuringly.

He then turns to the forge and speaks aloud: "To the being the forge, I don't know you and I can't know what you want, but I can't believe that it is this. I shalltry to return you to your plane. I hope this works, and that it gives you satisfaction. If I am wrong, then you have my apologies. I mean you only release from your captor, may his days be few"

And with that the Colonel attempts to Banish the Fire elemental in the forge.

"First I call on the Lightning above. Grant, I pray, that this task be done, without pain for the captive, that it might be free of this binding."

Were he above ground, he might expect a thunderbolt in the sky, but if it comes at this time, the Colonel does not see it.

Then he casts his spell.

OOC: OK -- might as well start by asking for Divine intervention. It's only a 10% chance, but possibly a lightning bolt will manifest and break the binding spell, or the effect of a Dispel magic at level 5?).

Regardless, unless we hear the screams of a fire elemental or a plea to stop, he'll cast Banishment, which is a level 4 spell, DC 18. Holding concentration.

Spells left: 1/1/3/1/2.

The attempts to break the binding spell clearly cause the elemental a sort of anguish, as fire bust through the door's venting grate. Even the crowbar began to grow too hot to handle, until Kahru and Donnell, wiping their brows, were forced to douse it in one of the water barrels (which wasn't as simple an act as one might think - the barrels were sized for the comfort of a fire giant's reach).

Finally, the Colonel prayed for intervention. Though his God did not grant it, he did feel a calm sense of confidence that he could handle the task on his own. So he cast his spell of banishment, and the elemental disappeared, taking thr heat of the forge with it. The metal was instantly cool to the touch.

The temperature in the room drops as the Fire Elemental's prison is opened for it, and the Colonel takes a sense of pleasure in thinking about what Smolderheart will feel when he realizes what has happened.

He is also pleased, though he admits to himself that this is of secondary importance, to have released another prisoner, and he hopes that it is with its consent and relief. He will probably never learn the truth.

He looks at his companions, a sunkenness in his eyes.

"Are we ready to leave with the prisoners? I feel we have done all that we can at this point."

Assuming he gets nods, he asks Donnell to take the rear ,and ensure there are no stragglers, as they make their way up and out of this fort, may he never have to see it again.

"Do any o'ye speak the Orcish?" asked the Dwarf Harmock as the group passed through the torture chamber collecting their rescued prisoners, "Meself, I learned some during the Axe Wars, when we were foes. Anyhow, Javok here wishes t'ken what'll happen t'is folk. Diggin' in the dirt an' cookin' in the kitchen. He got hisself tortured fer tryin' t'lead an escape, so I ken why it means so much t'him."

He indicated the orc who had been chained to the rack. The orc was in a bad way, unable to walk without assistance, far or less to fight, but he had a powerfully stubborn look in his eye.

OOC: Hey, I don't personally care if you leave the orcs - in fact, I would rather to keep to your alliance with the stone giants if I were to choose, but Javok cares!

Donnell salutes and starts organizing the freed slaves.

OOC: this is from one of my previous posts

As they leave the room, Donnell says to the orc, in common,

"When we leave, you can probably come with us. You'd be free to go your own way once we're outside."

When the dwarf speaks of the Orc, Donnell answers, "I spoke to him before but I think he was too injured to answer. Maybe a language barrier but I'll go see him again."

He moves to the orc,

"You are welcome to come with us. I'm not sure we can free your brethren now but I'm sure, from the outside, you can better organize a campaign to free them. I'm not sure if we would be able to help you but I'm sure we can find you someplace safe to recover."

He was motioning to the orc to join the others but whether or not the orc understood his full meaning, Donnell's words were filled with a determination and an offer of hope that lifted the spirit.
OOC:
I don't have any healing but I'll use my "Second Wind" and use my "rallying Cry" to give both the Colonel @Kobold Stew and the Orc 4 hit points. I don't know if anyone else was hurt.
