(IC) Against the Giants PBP Group 2

It took some boosting and scurrying to get the overheated crowbar doused, but eventually it was done and, inspite of his companions efforts, the Colonel was able to send the spirit back to whatever fiery conflagration it had come from.

Despite their success Kahru was troubled. Though they had slain Nosra and these torturers and released a few more slaves, still there was more to do. Smoulderheart still held the Steading, and that was an even greater threat than the dead Hill Giant King had been before him.
Lord Thyffon still needed to uncover who was truely behind the alliance, Kahru still needed to kill Mudsmuck and recover the Eaglebone whistle, and as he reviewed his goals, Waythe kept pushing him to slaying more giants to feed her own bloody passions.

Then when he overheard the dwarf stating the orc had tried to lead its kind to freedom, the Barbarians resolve was piqued and he went to the injured orc and provided healing word to help as he could.

"If your people will fight then I will fight with them" he spoke in the giant tongue, hoping that the Orc understood him, and then turning to the Colonel he stated "I am staying"

OOC: Casting Healing Word on the Orc.
Healing Word: 1D4+3 = [2]+3 = 5
I'll use L3 Cure Wounds on the Colonel if he needs it.
Cure Wounds: 3D8+3 = [4, 3, 8]+3 = 18
I want to keep exploring :) and supporting an orc rebellion is a good enough reason to go exploring - either going down to the excavation area or into that hole we found in the cellblock :)

Doc is watchin' his compadres from low under the brim of his hat, thinkin' to hisself. Helpin' them pilgrims out did feel like a cool stream in the desert. Can't reckon I felt that in a lonesome time. Still, man only got two things to his name; his gun and his word.

Doc offers his own take. Man's integrity is cheaply sold and dearly bought back. Figurin' I gave my word as bond, and can't rightly go back on it.

OOC:
Doc is more than happy to assist the orc (and other freed slaves) out and to continue the combat aboveground, but won't go back on a word given. If Doc promised to let the Stone Giants be, then he has to let 'em be.

The Colonel does not speak Orcish, and he glares at Harmock from under dark eyebrows.

"Doc is right. We've made a pact, and we need to honour it. We also need to ensure that those here are able to get away. There are no indications that the Stone Giant's workers are being tortured, and...", the Colonel seems insistent on this, as if her were convincing himself, "...so the situation is different."

We can leave the orc here if he wants to stay, but these prisoners must be taken to the surface."

The Colonel turns to the orc, and, loudly and slowly, as if that will make him better understood, he says "I'm sorry."

He turns to the others. "Kahru, I understand your choice, thoguh I don't agree. If you come with us now, we can look for alternatives once we're at the surface. I believe we can find them. But for now, these prisoners need to be taken away. It's likely we'll meet Smolderheart on the way. If we do, we would benefit by having you with us, and it will make your task easier, but the choice is yours."

To everyone: "We need to move."

The orc was grateful for the healing, but his wounds were such that it would take him several days to fully recover. He was in no position to insist on a course of action. Kahru was another matter. When he heard about the conflict, Tamanar the Elf Knight said, "I beseech you, northman - do not abandon your companions. Let us first get these people to safety above. Then, we can return and insist to the Stone Giants that they abandon their indentured workforce."

Kahru gave a hard look at the faces of his companions, lingering for a time on those of the Squire and the Colonel, two he had come to respect. But it was the elf knights pleading that moved him, Tamanar who had overseen the rescued prisoners and was still commited to their safety.
Very well, I will come with you up stairs to see these to safety” he conceded looking over their current charges and I will not interfere with the steinjotunen - but my sword will strike at any ogres we come across, and I vow to cut off the Ildjotuns head too!

There is still much to be done before the sorrounding villages are free of this curse The northman mused “still more of this steading to be explored and these wretched orcs deserve freedom as much as any other, so I will fight with them when the time is ready -but first where are we taking this lot?

“Ahem,” Donnell said, not wanting to interrupt the discussion but feeling this was a perfect opportunity to pipe in,

“Sir, Everyone is ready to go.

People are organized and those strong enough to fight have whatever weapons we could find. “

The Colonel nods to Donnell. He speaks to the prisoners, "The priority is for you to escape. We will stay with you, but if we see the fire giant, you keep going. We will hold him back. Out the gate, across the open field, and to the woods. We'll find you."

And the Colonel, shield in one hand, adjusts his collar and begins the ascent, back to the main floor.

Doc reckons the feudin' is over, at least for a bit, adjusts his hat, takes a pull from the flask, and moseys on behind Hoss.

OOC:
Doc is going up, gun ready, slightly behind Hoss and whomever else is in the lead.

Donnell speaks to the Colonel to the side,

“I know you want me rear-guard but I could scout ahead to make sure the coast is clear. We might get farther without a fight if we avoid giants all together. “

Gimlak succinctly grunted his agreement. He was no fan of orcs, and he would need to thread carefully with the stone giants, but he felt that the more they weakened the giants, the lesser of a threat they would be.

OOC: sorry guys, I wasn't getting updates for this thread, likely because communications exploded on Oct 16th. I'm back. Cheers,
