Doc moseys up to Caine and the remaining men. Reckon we cleared out the underneath of a bunch of the big uglies for ya.

Doc pauses for a second, looking at the corpse of Smolderheart. Figure y'all done yerselves a real service. Y'all got bigger stones hangin' from ya than them ruslters can lift, I tell ya.

Rememberin' that these men stayed up to drink and play cards with 'em, and appreciatin' their courage, Doc starts helpin' the men and bindin' some wounds while waitin' for the planned assault.

OOC:
Doc is going to use his medical skills on the men to help out while the prisoners make their way and we decide how to attack.

Legend
The true cost of Caine's assault only really became apparent as the prisoners were escorted to the front gates. Caine's men, who were not busy working toward taking down the front gate, had lined the bodies of their dead on the side of the trail that led to the outer gate. There were forty-or-so bodies. A full two-thirds of their number, burned, crushed, and mangled.

Caine, from the back of his horse, called to the adventurers, "I am glad you could join us. We shall have this door down soon, and I would be happy to have you participate in my final glorious assault on their leaders!"

Kahru surveyed the courtyard with his mouth open, Caine standing triumphant over the corpse of the Ildjotun Smolderheart was not something he had expected to see this day and the barbarian was forced to change his assessment of the Captains capability!

As he looked Kahru took time to examine the piles of corpses, he had originally come here for the ogre Mudsmuck, was that sworn nemesis here among the dead or would the northman need to keep hunting in order to recover the Eagle-bone whistle and his right to return home?

"Waythe, our target is dead slain by another but still we have others we need to strike down!

a pincher movement!
" he suggested to the others "we attack the hall from all sides strike the remaining giants down in a frenzy of slaughter! I am ready to take the rear!"

OOC: sorry about the delay, been a busy couple of days and just got back to my laptoop

The Colonel strides forward and greets Caine. His heels click, and he salutes the commander. Though he's not formally a subordinate, anyone who has led such a mighty assault deserves his respect.

Streaks of grime and sweat pour down the faces of the soldiers he sees. They are weary in victory, but they appear resolute.

"Sir. Congratulations on Smolderheart. Prisoner rescue a success. If you wish, I release them to your care."

Now is not the time to acknowledge the losses, but the Colonel's eyes take in the devastation, an he pities the families that will now be bereft of protectors. Assuming there is someone who can take the prisoners from the fort to the copse under protection, then the Colonel is prepared to continue the assault. Using the Earth Elemental makes sense, and he is prepared to go right away.

(The Colonel has the ability to cast revivify to bring back anyone who has been dead for only 1 minute; that doesn't seem to be applicable to any of those here, but his compassion is such that he would use it if it would save one further life.)

"Now we clear out the stragglers, and end this." He looks to his companions for assent.

Legend
Captain Caine acknowledged the Colonel's salute, and said, somewhat absently, while waving toward the outer gates, "Prisoner's, you say? I'm sure Faldur's scouts can escort them away."

Under the watchtower were eight warhorses. Caine's calvary (a dozen men) had lost only four horses, but had lost all but two of their riders. Those men were now assembled as part of a small unit of pikemen, preparing to batter at the main door with axes and a small ram that had be cut from one of the posts of the outer wall.

"You are welcome to share in my glorious victory, Colonel." the Captain added, magnanimously, "Would you like to be the first through the breach, when we achieve it?"

It was clear to the Colonel that Caine meant the offer sincerely, but that neither of them had any illusions when it came to the likelihood of survival of that position.

The Colonel looks to his companions. Enough of those with whom he makes eye contact offer reassuring nods. He ensures the prisoners are taken safely away, and turns to face the door.

"Captain, I'll take that honour. First through the breach, and, lightning-sent, I'll help achieve our access."

When the others are ready to go (no rests! the Colonel is driven), the Colonel summons an Earth elemental, holds concentration, and directs it to tunnel its way underneath and through. If it can provide a tunnel though which we can follow, the Colonel will go. If not, then its instructions are to find a way to open the gate.

OOC: Activate the Hill Giantess's necklace: lasts an hour or concentration.
