Look's like we are doing a frontal assault. Um, anyone want to do a St. Crispin's Day speech while we wait for the Elemental?

:)

Doc will provide covering fire when the breach is open.

The elemental could easily move through the ground by swapping the rock and dirt of its body for that of the rock and dirt in front of it. Digging a tunnel was also well within its abilities, but was significantly slower. On the other hand, it was much faster at it than any of Caine's sappers, who would have taken most of the night to dig and secure any reasonable tunnel.

The elemental could create a ten-foot-cubic tunnel in about as many minutes (ten). And was much better at navigating while it worked.

OOC: Where would you like it to tunnel from and to?

This day hath seen the end of Smolderheart.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is named,
And rouse him at the thought of giants slain.
He that shall live this day and see old age
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say "Tomorrow Smolderheart was killed"
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say "These wounds I had from giant foes."

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he today that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in Greyhawk now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon the Hill Giant's Stead.

OOC: Open to suggestions from the team. We've been in this room before, I'm inclined just to open up a hole at AI-AJ 64-65. That allows some to go back and secure/open the doors, while others hold the masses in the main room. Just the other side of the door (AI-AJ 72-73 is also possible, and quicker). I understand there are more tactically optimal places (e.g. AA-AB 62-63, but that is not the Colonel's way (he wants access to the roof, which we know is open above the fire pit, IIRC).

"Ae the firepit!" Kahru recalled when the Colonel presented his thoughts. Taking a last look around at the corpse piles to see that he had not missed the face of Mudsmuck, the druid transformed, feathered wings and a hawks sharp eyes replacing his human faculties as he headed for the roof to survey see what he might spy through the wide chimney of the firepit...

OOC: How about we get 2 small groups to start battering the NW and NE doors. They don't necessarily need to gain access...but just to will draw some giants to the back of the room to reinforce those doors.

Then we can come out in AJ 64-65 and let people in the main doors. We will likely be surrounded, though, by those giants left reinforcing the main doors. But then there will be less giants, we hope, at the front doors.

Not finding Mudsmuck the Ogress in the pile of ogres (he was sure that he'd recognize her face), Kahru turned into a hawk, and he flew over the steading, with a few soldiers pointing and gasping at him as he went, impressed by his magic.

He dropped through the enormous smoke-hole that was over the Great Hall's large firepit. As he had expected the giants had the room in full lock-down. They'd moved all of the crates, barrels, and much else, to each of the three exits - east, west, and most notably south. There were three full-sized hill giants, one youth (who Kahru recognized as one of the only survivors of the Chief's children) and one of the weaker, serving-class hill giants.

Three things stood out to him all at once: 1) Mudsmuck was there, personally guarding the giant youth. She stood by his side with a rusty axe on her back, wearing the furs of the great mamoths that roamed the tundra near his homeland. 2) The stone giants that the group had, just yesterday, negotiated with (their names were Laerthar and his assistant Utharn) were both chained to the two largest of the hall's support-pillars. Presumably considered traitors for their association. And 3) One of the hill giants was looking up, scanning the rafters for just his sort of trouble, and holding a large rock. He'd not been spotted yet, but he needed a place to hide.

OOC: @Tonguez, there are plenty of places to land behind cover, but you'd need to make a dc12 Stealth check in your Hawk form or the giant will throw the rock at you.

OOC: Edited to add a map. It's not easy to make out Kahru, as a Hawk, but he's behind Utharn (Stone Giant 2) though, really, he's in the rafters above...

Okay. Full frontal assault with the troops. Colonel and Gimlak with main force? Taran, Kahru (strength) and Doc will hit the NW door at same time. Kahru forces door open? Then Taran and Kahru enter and I'm firing at HG Shlub and Mudsmuck in support right behind you?

Yes? No? Maybe?

OOC: Under the scenario above, is the banging on the front door turning into a ruse for the tunneling? Timing forcing doors all at once could get tricky.

Edit to add - the final bursting through would also be tricky. Elemental takes 10 minutes to clear a 10ft cube. Don't want to take THAT long, so it'll have to break through the last bit suddenly.
