D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Princes of Elemental Evil

Hot coals smolder in two big brick hearths in the middle of this room, and the smell of baking bread fills the air. Sacks of flour, casks of salted fish, crates of dried vegetables, and wheels of cheese clutter the walls, along with well worn work tables and a collection of mismatched cutlery. A doorway to the west leads to a washroom where three large wooden tubs stand. A door to the north leads to the monastery exterior, while another door leads south.

Sure enough, Damien finds plenty of food in this room. The room just to the west is a bathhouse and laundry area with three large wooden tubs.

Carradoc is still in the Dining room, looking under the tables. When he smells the bread baking, though, he does wander into the kitchen. He checks the hearths -- how long has the bread been in there? If the loaves are anything other than burnt to a crisp, he confirms Damien's suspicions. "Someone's been here within the last half hour. We should be on our guard."

When the suggestion is made to go downstairs, Carradoc says: "As I see it, there are three routes down. The large hole in the floor next door, which we cannot close. The central staircase, which I believe I can keep shut for up to an hour if we wanted to block it off, to prevent being encircled. And the flight at the far East of the building. Have I missed any? If nothing else, we should take the precautions and block off the one access point, I feel, before descending."

The bread is in-fact burnt to a crisp at this point. There are some finished loaves as well... at least a dozen.

Everything seems very plain and low on flavor, but likely filling. The monks seem to have lived very quiet and simple lives.

Carradoc takes one or two of the loaves, and puts them in a canvas bag if there is one.

OOC: The steps by M11 Carradoc can close off, he thinks; if the access at M9 is just a pit and not a staircase (and no ladders have been placed there by now, etc.) Then I suggest the stairs in M16, after dealing with M11.

"The stairs to the east work. Though, agreed, blocking off other means of entry would be good strategy. Unless it's us who needs an alternate means of escape, and then it's not so good." Dent smiled a sweaty-toothed grin at Carradoc. A smear of dirt mingled with a splatter of blood on the knight's forehead. He gave the baths a wide berth, instead standing near the door on the dining room's southern wall, shifting his weight back and forth like the tail of a cat.

The tubs look like they were filled with water and whatever else was used to clean the monks clothing. There are plenty of clean folded monks outfits in a stack in the room.
