D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

While Weed was strangely larger than it had been before, it was still quite light. Imogen had no problem climbing while the plant-creature clung to her like a fancy backpack. She spun her weight upward while Dellrak's strong dwarven hands held tight, and she reached the ledge without trouble. Here she was able to see another long hallway stretch off to a T-junction. Daylight reached the floor of the tunnel through cracks in the ceiling and plants had grown in the thick layer of dust on the floor, watered by rain that leaked through the same cracks as the light.

The whole place smelled of must, mildew, and mushrooms.

Once Miss Imogen is steady and she has lowered Weed , she braces herself and helps Dellrak. Then she looks to the others and surveys where they are.

Ussals long body folds around the spikes at the bottom and he gingerly lifts the torso of the spikes, hissing to himself.

Looking around in the meagre light from above he tries to see a way out. Pulling two enchanted coins out, and motioning upward, he tosses one to the human woman above.
"This may be useful to you."
The coin slows down as it approaches and hovers in front of Miss Imogen.

As he lowers his torso down, a sparkling interaction between the spike he lies next to and some kind of field around him causes twinkling in the air.

Free: "ouch!"
Interaction: take out light coins
Bonus: Activate Defensive field
Standard: cast invisible mage hand and send one coin upward

Myrral looks over the skeleton of some previous adventurer and scampers up the wall to Crysagon.
"I can help you down. I don't have a rope to string it across, but I have a whip that can help with going down at least part of the way. I'm not sure I can hold you with armor and all, but I can try. With your own strength, I'm believe you can make it slowly down."

OOC: Cryssagon gets both help action (advantage) and 1d8 inspiration die :)

Once the paladin is down, one way or another, he climbs on the other side.
"At least we have a way forward."

Raising his voice to others outside
"If you want to join us, hurry up, this will collapse any second now."

Chrysagon found himself dangling on the ledge. He had managed to hold on to the ledge when the floor fell away. I knew it, he cried out. I told you not to pull the lever!!!
Like a spider, Myrral scrambled up next to him and spoke softly. Chrysagon calmed down and with Myrral's help he climbed down safely into the pit. Thank you, Myrral, you're a good friend. Next, he walked across to the other side and looked up. Does anyone have a rope? Not waiting for an answer, he started to look for hand and foot holds.

Miss Imogen takes the coin that Ussal has offered to her, its bright glow illuminating the front chamber in which she stands. She hears Chrysagon's recriminations, but she does not accept the premise. "We could not know what would happen," she tells Weed, "and we cannot know what would have happened alternatively. It may have been more of the gas, or water, or simply a sealed tomb. This is not a place where there are any right choices."

The orc Ghorukk pulled himself off of the spikes with a gurgling moan. He was not mortally injured, but he staggered, dizzy from the poison coursing through his veins. His trained first duty was to see to Zagmira, and he did, hauling her off of the spikes on which she lay. He propped her up for a moment with great care, but she was unresponsive.

With Myrral's help, Chrysagon climbed down and worked his way over among the spikes. It was obvious to the Paladin that she had not survived the fall, and he caught the eye of the orc and shook his head.

Suddenly the orc let out a great roar of laughter, and he dropped the wizard's body and kicked it, laughing, until he stumbled from the poison.

OOC: I just noticed that Zagmira only had 42 HP from full. I'm not doing death saves with NPCs that I don't like. Oh, I forgot to put in the above post that Myrral took 4 damage from the fall. Sore paws. Ghorukk has the poisoned condition.

Morning
Round 0

“Well, tha’s one way ta do it,” Dellrak mumbled into his beard as he hung there by the lever, supporting his own weight, and that of Imogen and Weed. He held tight as they climbed up him and into the tunnel, then accepted Imogen’s help out as well.

Athletics, advantage with Help: 2D20.HIGH(1)+7 = [9, 11]+7 = 18

“Hold up. I got rope,” Dellrak told the others in the pit. He anchored the other end and helped haul the rest out. The Red Wizard hadn’t survived, and lay still down in the hole. “If the wizard’s dead, see what she has that we might use,” Dellrak instructed. “Grab ever’thin’. Rations, water, we dunnae ken wot we’ll need in this place.”

Myrral looks at the body. He didn't like the arrogant old-child. But no one deserved the death like this. looking over her equipment, he takes what they could need. He closed her eyes, put her in a peaceful position and covered her face with a piece of fabric.

"I'll heal us up when we get up all together. Give me a breath or two."

OOC: Cast Detect magic as a ritual (10 minutes)

Zagmira had always appeared to have very little on her in the way of belongings. However, she had a single shoulder-bag that was embroidered with intricate designs. Being a Wizard, it seemed very likely that in the least, she must have a spellbook inside. Myrral began a ritual to search her body for hidden magic.

In the meantime, those outside rushed to join those inside. Qawasha and Orvex were made to wait while the yuan-ti worked to try to stabilize the crushing slab. They added debris from the plant-matter that had earlier been cleared, but that seemed to be unlikely to hold for long. Then, they sent a broodguard through. The first of the two yuan-ti guards squeezed its way through, but couldn't figure out how to get down, eventually dangling and then dropping into the twenty-foot pit. It landed reasonably well, but gouged itself on some of the iron spikes.

The second broodguard bumped the ridge of its back on the stone slab, and the slab shifted, causing it to become stuck. It hissed and struggled to no avail. Yassah shapeshifted into a fifteen-foot long snake and slid under the slab, using his snake-form's powerful muscles in a coil, he lifted the slab just enough to free the broodguard, and slithered down the wall, landing safely in the pit. The injured broodguard climbed down as well, its claws scraping on the wall.

There was not much room to get through now. Qawasha was inspired by the yuan-ti's snake-form, and he used his druidic magic to turn into a small ape. He safely climbed under the slab and waited on the other side for Orvex, who's skinny old scribe's body slid under the slab safely. Qawasha held out an ape-paw to help the (surprisingly kind) Thayan down, but as the man turned around to begin his decent, the slab shifted once more. In his surprise (and desire to not be crushed) Orvex pushed himself backward away from the shifting slab, and he lost his grip on the wall. Qawasha tried to grab him, but it was no use - the old scribe fell hard, impaling himself on the iron spikes below.

The yuan-ti moved along as if the loss were nothing to them, but Qawasha climbed down with his long ape-arms, and he put one hand over his eyes and shook his shaggy head in shame and sorrow.

OOC: This went pretty wrong. BG1 fell taking 13; BG2 was crushed for 31 (restrained, but Yassah freed it) then made it down; Orvex, in spite of help, fell to his death (55 damage total!); Yassah & Qawasha made it fine, but Qawasha feels terrible.
BG1 athletics to climb through, down 20 feet: : 1D20+2 = [6]+2 = 8 Failed. See below.

Yassah getting through & down as a snake: Check: 2D20.HIGH(1)+5 = [20, 10]+5 = 25 makes it.
Qawasha succeeds automatically because he's small and has a climb speed.
