D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

FitzTheRuke

Legend
Treading water, one of the smugglers said to Harb, "You've flooded the tunnel on this side! They'll have to fend for themselves tonight. We won't be able to get to them until morning. Anchorage gate is closed up for the night by now!"

The other smuggler clung to the warf for dear life, "Can't swim!" he choked, spitting water.

Rodrigo heard the sputtering of the struggling smuggler.

Turning to Harb he said in a low voice "This doesn't clear up our dilema... is the artefact gone or not?" He then added louder: "Oy on the boat! A rope for your friend!" as he looked for a rope himself.

"I suppose we have to search it to be sure... Hopping those guys on the boat are who we think they are if we come back empty-handed."

OOC: Chrysagon search the bodies and the crates for the artefact.

Legend
It's and exceedingly simple task for Rodrigo to find a rope, they are positively everywhere on the dock. It appears the sailors threw many of the ropes off of the ship while clearing it of things they did not want to be burned. Folded sails are also about on the dock, some in crates, others not.

The sailors will cooperate. All they appear to care about is getting their ship fixed and getting back out into the bay. They allow the ship to be searched, even helping when it becomes clear that they are not being "officially" inspected and are more likely to face street-justice here if they don't help, than they are to face imprisonment if they do.

It appears that they were mainly smuggling dinosaur eggs, many of which were broken or cooked in the fire. Two raptor eggs are found intact, painted on the outside with arcane runes.

Seeing that the situation was under control, Harb loojed out towards the boat underway. It seemed doubtful that they could catch it at this point, if they tried. So he set about ministering to the dead. (And collecting their valuables/coin for the cause.)

Dellrak spent his time donning his armor once more. It was a struggle with the wet undercoat, but he was eventually rearmed and suited up for a fight that looked to be over.

"I didn't think it be wise to chase whoever dae be at night," he said when he learned of the escaped ship making off with what they were after. "We was lucky enough to get here and finds out what happened so we can report back."

Rodrigo nods

"yup, that fleeing boat is gone. So... how do we get back in town? We could spend the night in that shed, it's small but it's shelter. The tunnels are flooded and this district isn't safe at night"

"The gates are close for the night - and these gentlemen have their goods to transport, I don't wish to get involved in that... however..." Rodrigo looked at the remaining smugglers

"Our sole interest is the artefact. You have merchandise to move inside the city, and were planning on using the tunnel. Perhaps together we can pump the water out?" Rodrigos looked at the others to see if they too approved.

Legend
"Can't pump the water out until low tide, early in the morning." said one of the smugglers, "Unless you can come up with a way to seal the hole."

While Rodrigo spoke to the smuggler, Harb looked out into the bay. A few lights bobbed on anchored ships and he could see sailors aboard one of them closing hatches. A dark grey wall was moving across the bay toward them, ominously. He glanced at a sailor, who saw where he was looking and said, "Here comes the rain. I tell you what - we are short on men. You help us get off this dock and get anchored out there, and you can stay aboard until morning. It'll be tight, but it'll be dry. Well, it'll be drier, anyway."
