EDIT= Oops, ninja'd by TS. Still mostly good though. Adding Quote:

"No. Absolutely not," replies Suldrel flatly. "Under no circumstances will we split up while in this swamp." Without saying anything else he steps back onto the path toward the warden's house.
"So it's decided," Fastus told the others, smiling -- although, truth be told, he'd sort of been looking forward to hunting the great three-toed beast at this point, just him and Suldrel... Ah well.

The young man pressed a vial of insect repellant in each of their hand as they passed by, whether they wanted one or not.

OOC: Don't suppose Fastus has heard of any local legends about anything with three toes, has he Tailspinner? Knowledge Local: 1d20+5=18.

While he's at it, what does he know, if anything, about the Swamp Warden? Knowledge Local: 1d20+5=6. Um. Not much, apparently.

Brinestump Marsh: New Fish Trail

[sblock=Fastus only]Three-Toed Monster: The closet thing that Fastus can recall that might fit what you've seen is the Soggy River Monster. The creature has been blamed for several deaths in the area. The Latest Report: The Soggy River Monster was seen again, this time by a fisherman on the New Fish Trail. He said it stood taller than a man, had white skin, and had a mouth that opened up all the way down its neck. It was eating what looked like a goblin on the far side of the river, which is why the farmer managed to escape.

Swamp Warden: That weird halfling who lives at the end of the New Fish Trail in Brinestump Marsh raises snakes as pets.[/sblock]

Jariah Taliaferro, Human Female

Jariah nodded graciously to acknowledge Wireth’s agreement. But after Suldrel’s outburst she glanced sidelong at Sachiko and whispered, “He really has a thing for bossing people around when it comes to splitting up.” She did not disagree on the issue, but did not care for his tone or the idea that he could order them around.

Jakira was apt say much more and was not very quiet about it. “He’s a pu-” Once more he was stifled mentally by his mistress. He trudged down the path and was grumbling under his breath unintelligibly.

Arriving at the bridge, they were once again alerted to something out of the ordinary. She cast a protection spell on Jakira, providing with some unseen magical armor over his fur. The feline eidolon moved to her side as she looked back and then he stood in front of her protectively.

“I cannot see it now, but something was behind us a moment ago.”

OOC: Cast Mage Armor of Jakira, Duration 1 hour.

Fastus' hand tightened on his shield-grip, pale brown eyes scanning the woods in the general direction symbol-girl was looking. (He'd, of course, rushed towards the dead animal moments before and was even now crouching pretty much right over the thing.)

OOC: What does the mutilated animal look like, TS? Why is it 'strangely' mutilated? Survival roll if useful: 1d20-1=4 (Hopefully not :)).

Wireth Norin, half-orc falconer

"Yesterday we couldn't find a soul for trying. Today it seems like everything in the bloody swamp is checking us out," Wireth muttered as Jariah gave her warning. He kept his double-axe at the ready as he moved toward Faustus to inspect the animal.

"Well, if it's on the other side of the bridge, we know the way it needs to take to get here, I suppose," Wireth offered. "I'm not all that good with a bow; anyone who is, want to keep an eye out while we see if this poor thing was dinner. Or if it's bait?"

The animal looks like it was a small alligator. Maybe two feet in length. But it looks like something chewed on it for a while before spitting it out.

"As much as I'd love to run off after everything we see," Sachiko muses, "I think I'd like to see the Warden first...I'm really curious to know more about the goblins, and where they are, so we can start gettin' that bounty!"

"What was it? Are we in danger?"
"I'll- We'll protect you," assured Fastus without fully taking his eyes off the place.

Then: "Could it be the Soggy River Monster?" the young blacksmith softly inquired of Suldrel and Wireth when nothing charged out at them, or even made a sound. "It's supposed to have a big toothy mouth all the way down its neck, right?" You'd sort of need that to chew on a 2-foot alligator, right?

If nothing else happens: On impulse Fastus grabbed the young gator by the tail and tossed it out towards where the others seemed to be looking: "Hey! You forgot something!"

"I suppose so," says the elf non-committally. "I am not really an expert on the finer points of fauna and flora. I mostly just hunt ordinary game with Shalelu from time to time."
