Legend
Hearing the growling chaos on the Daggerfordian's "front line", Dandin peeked around the large rock. He saw the Ogress holding the chain and the bear, and he remembered some things he had once read about orcs:

Orcs fear their gods, rather than worship them and believe their gods to be invincible. Gruumsh One-Eye is the creator of the orcs and the undisputed ruler of the orc pantheon - but there are other gods. Gruumsh has a wife named Luthic the Cave Mother. Luthic is often thought to take the guise of an enormous cave bear. Every orc tribe has superstitions about how to avert the gods wrath or bring their favour. Her followers will often honour her by keeping cave bears as pets. Luthic’s devoted will often grow their natural claws long and paint them black to mimic the fearsome talons of their goddess.

These orcs were mostly female, wearing bearskin hides and crafted claw-like weapons. There were a few differences from what he had read, but he was sure that they were followers of Luthic. The bear was male and was probably recently captured. It was happy to maul anyone in front of it, and the orc in the bushes had cast some sort of bonding spell (Dandin had been on the other side of the rock, and had missed most of that event, but he gathered that she was the priestess, and most likely the leader of this group). On the other hand, the chain implied that it was not wholly under the orcs' control, and need a firm hand (such as an Ogre's) on the chain to keep it directed.

Still, now that it was mauling the front line, even if the chain were dropped, there was no way to easily turn it around...

Dandin watched this scene for a moment before noticing a few things. The bear wasn't really well trained yet, thus the chain. But that also meant the orgog's control over it was tenuous at best. Maybe it was even abused. If something were introduced, suddenly into their relationship, maybe the bear would turn on it's controller. He couldn't help but notice that through the bear's own violent movements the chain had a tendency to whack or rub against it's flank. It was probably annoying as-is, but...

"WAIT! I have an idea! Don't attack the bear! Just defend for now!"

He could only hope this plan worked. Flipping his wrist he brought the Siren's Call back into it's shawm form and played a nameless and repetitive tune which quickly built up into a Creshendo. As he did, the chain, began to heat up, turning red hot in a matter of moments, and just about where it seemed to be coming into contact with the bear's flank the most.

Then, as another arrow flew down from the cliff, he remembered the archer and ducked back into cover.

Heat Metal (fire damage): 2d8 11

He'll take the damage as long as he keeps pulling on the chain essentially which I'm hoping will make him turn on his controller. But maybe there could be other effects you might consider as reasonable.[/color]

Neurotic

I plan on living forever. Or die trying.
Elven warriors consolidate their lines. Lord Darfin quickly calls out "Obey Dandin, don't attack the bear." in elven as quick confirmation for the the guards.

The guards shuffle around, the one savaged by the orc falling back and the one behind him stepping up to the bear. The lord tries to burn the ogre, but his guard steps in front and he has to quickly change the aim. The fiery ray shoots harmlessly into the sky.

Guard 1: moves in front of Dandin to =19. Dodge action.
Guard 2: moves forward next to Vairar W22. Dodge action.
Guard 3: moves back --> Disengage action, moves to V22
Darfin: Firebolt vs Ogre; fire damage: 1D20+6 = [1]+6 = 7;2D10 = [6, 3] = 9 :(

Legend
For a moment, the battle turned to something of a stalemate: the archer on the hill fired down into the front line, only to have the elf guard block with her shield. One of the larger orcs threw a spear at Sir Darfin, but the shield line held again, and it was blocked. But the Daggerfordians and their allies fared little better: Escella fired a magical bolt at the ogre, only to have it duck to the side. Similarly, the elf lord missed with a bolt of flame.

Tommi joined Dandin and an elf at the other end of the large rock, and the elf covered them both with a shield. Dandin had an idea, and he played his instrument. The bear's chain-leash grew red hot and the ogress dropped it, cursing. The bear's collar smouldered but the bear was only mildly scorched as the orc that had cast a ritual on the bear took much of the heat, and kept the creature focused through additional healing. Vairar was forced to abandon the plan for the moment, and stabbed the beast to avoid being mauled.

The ogress, like many of these orcs, was wearing large claws lashed to the backs of her hands, and she moved in as the guards stood to protect their lord and his allies. The ogress clawed low, rending the guard's shield and causing him to take a step back, rattled.

As one of the larger orcs (which must have been part ogre, known as an orog) moved up the road to join the fray, Angis stepped out of the brush and traded axe-swings. The orog was lightly wounded, but the dwarf was not.

Up on the hill, the little orb spun about the head of the archer, doing its best to distract him.
