D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

Downstairs was a kitchen, that would once have been the very height of style and sophistication. It had a water-pump in its water basin, and shelves that would have held numerous brass pots, pans, ladles, and spoons - were it not that those had been used to make noise-traps over the two exterior doors. Across the stairs from Tommi, as he arrived on the worn tile floor with Oh-six buzzing overhead and Lionel right behind him, was the door that he'd not come through when he'd been boosted upstairs. It was rigged, like another door on his right, to drop heavy and loud objects on anyone who entered.

To his left, across the kitchen, was a smaller door (Tommi knew from outside that it would lead to a single-storey add-on, that the gnolls had climbed up to get on the roof) and along the hallway that led to that door was an arch that led to a spiral staircase heading downward.

There was no one around.

If it's clear, Morgan quietly follows but not close enough to get in Tommi's way or ruin his stealth. He waits in the kitchen and lets Tommi explore down the spiral staircase.

With the kitchen being essentially safe, everyone moved down to join Morgan as Tommi continued to scout, as was his job. The stairway led downward, going deeper than Tommi thought was reasonable, but came to a normal-looking wine cellar. At a glance, most bottles appeared to be dusty, broken, or dried out when their seals decayed.

Alone in this deep room, Tommi knows he should be more curious. He understands that if he could detect magic, he might cast a spell and all the secrets of the room would be laid bare to him.

Oh Six hovers down and settles at his shoulder, providing illumination, even if Tommi himself remains unseen.

An observer would see one of the wine bottles rotating slowly, and that's Tommi reading the label, his thumb smudging the dust away. He remembers a time Lionel and he snuck into the wine cellar of the Happy Cow back in Daggerford, and the trouble they got into when caught. His mom's disappointment in him lasted a month, he remembers, and it was only later that he learned from Sherlen that the disappointment was because he had got caught, and because it was a friend's tavern.

Alone, or at least feeling he was by himself for a moment, Tommi was caught in this memory when Oh Six directed his light, and whistled.

"What do you see there, pal?" Tommi whispers.

OOC: Tommi's not trained in Investigation, but Oh Six is, and can cast guidance. I think it wouldn't occur to Tommi to check for dust on the bottles, or signs that one had been rotated, or that there might be a hidden passage. It would occur to Oh Six, however.

Oh Six investigation: 1d20+4=19. If he can cast guidance on itself, then +1d4=4 =23.

Oh-six's light illuminated a door-frame secreted behind one of the wine-racks. The floor had been recently swept with loose dirt to mask any grooves that might be produced when the rack rolled inward to open the door.

Lionel follows Tommi downstairs when he hears something that sounds like a door opening below. He stops at the bottom of the stairs to assess the wine cellar.
Accidentally, he kicks a bottle on the ground and it makes some loud clinking noises, which distracts him enough to avoid noticing anything in particular but he realises that the cellar is really messy and dusty. Lionel suppresses a cough badly.

Morgan moves to the top of the staircase deciding if he should follow. He looks down to Lionel and gives a questioning 'thumbs up'? He now wishes he'd learned the cantrip message when he was younger. He should have listened to his master's advice more closely.

Lunn keeps ready to support the group, moving behind Morgan, but remaining alert to the dangers in the upper level.
