[IC] SWS/DnD5, Star Wars the Old Republic – A Gathering Darkness

Cass Everburn glances at this Gand, replying "Ha, not likely. Czerka just gave us a cheap skiff and that idiot Bigt..." he gestures at the dead bothan "...drove over some loss ground that got sucked into the forward repluser and then crashed. Nothing to do with some stupid scalies. Now we thank you for all your help dealing with the fliers there but... well we can handle it from here. Why don't you run back to your Republic beast hugs and tell them you did your due diligence..."

"The stupid scalies lured your men into a very efficient trap," Kacela replies evenly. Her lightsaber swooshed off again, but it remained in her hand for the moment. "Not to mention we have been able to establish communication with them. They are intelligent, indigenous beings."

"Czerka has not been honest with you. We would like to share our information with you, so you can make an informed choice about how you, and your men, wish to proceed."

"Is there somewhere nearby we can talk?"

Cass looks Kacela for a long moment and then at the other mercenaries. Finally he signs and says "Fine, lets get out of this stupid swamp first. Whether Czerka lied to us or not... well who's going to pay for us to get off this rock? Without the bounties some of the lads an't getting far. Besides, the Kwi are violent killers whether they are beasts or smart beasts..."

With that Cass leads the mercs to follow the team back to the landspeeder, a pair of unconscious mercs and speederbike. The team is still half a kilc from the edge of the swamp. This Gand and Cal catch occasional glimpses of movement in the swamp that might be the Kwi following them.

The mercenaries follow behind until the group makes it out to drier land and finds a patch of cleared level ground to sit down on. Cass sits reluctently next to Kacela and says "OK show me what you got... Jedi"

GM: I think Forge Fury is still out but this might be a good time to take a Short Rest. With his Medkit, anyone who spends their Hit Dice to recover gains Advantage on their roll (roll your Hit Die twice, take the better result) + Constitution modifier. Also he is trained as a Medic, which means he also adds 1/2 (round up) his level (so +1) + his Int or Wis modifier (so +2 more) for a total of +3.

He can do this for up to six people at once, and there are two wounded mercs he will help in additional to Reks. Anyone who wishes can spend up to their level in Hit Dice to gain HP back during a short rest.

You gain back 1/2 (round down) your level in Hit Dice after each long rest (remember after a long rest you do NOT regain all lost hit points. The only way to regain hit points is to spend hit dice). OR if you are trained in Charisma (Use the Force).

If you are trained in Charisma (Use the Force) you can also use the following...

Force Trance: As an Action that takes your entire round (no bonus or reaction Actions, no movement) you can enter a Force Trance with a Charisma (Use the Force) skill DC 10. In this state you remain fully aware of your surroundings and can end the trances as a Reaction. If you remain in the trance for 3 consecutive hours, you emerge from the trance as if you had taken a long rest (with all the benefits). You many gain this benefit only once per 24 hours as normal. If you wish to go longer periods within a Force Trance you may, and while in this trance you can go ten time as long as normal without food and water (so 30 plus Constitution modifier times 3, minimum +0 days without food and up to 10 days on one gallon or water, or two gallons in a hot environment). You only require 1/10 the normal oxygen (or your normal atmosphere).

Jihahna slumps a little deflated over the handlebars at the silence. A confirmation in her mind that the team was to pick the peaceful option. She decides to go and Join her companions in their republic speeder, with Thirteen in the back along with the two mercs, rather than let their unconscious bodies be eaten by Saurian fliers. She apologises to the mercs and explains her decision to front up and confess, explaining that she too is pretty much a merc and is just a little more trigger happy than her companions. She also tells them where she has parked their speedbike.

Afterwards, she sits back and rests next to Thirteen. When Cass mentions the issue of payment, Jihahna speaks up. "The republic would still pay to send you home or to employ you i'm pretty sure."

It takes a few seconds for the gand to realize that the bothan has already died of his injuries... cruck click "Fragile." Surprised...

Then it turns away and philosophically squats down, watching the interplay between Kacela and the merc leader from the side. Oh, and also:
Raising her communicator again she addresses the Gand once more, "Okay listen, the truth can potentially convince them to leave, but you have to point out the primary problems the truth is going to have for THEM. Firstly, the significant amount of trouble they have had so far is the result of only the dozen or so Kwi that left the mining camp recently."

Jihahna pauses a moment, before continuing
... unaware that the gand has used the pause to put her on speaker -- holding his wrist comm towards the other two like some messengers form a far away queen.

jumble drone clacketty "Jihahna Darut spoke," she concludes afterwards.

===

out of the swamp, the gand buzzes, amused at something, but discretely gestures the silver droid a bit back the way they came as the others talk: jumble click mumble drone, he asks once they get there. "Could GE3-T3 translate this, please?"

Assuming the droid agrees, she tells it what she wants said before facing the forest and pulling out her vocoder once more.

"These ones offer the meat of these powerful flying beasts to the Kwi as thanks for letting them escape! These ones now go warn the ones who dig of the dangers of demons and demon guardians! Fare well, Kwi warriors!"

A cough as it returns the breather to its proper place... but she gets it under control.

Cass shrugs his shoulder when this Gand puts the speaker on the comlink to relay Jihahna's message and says "We will see I suppose..."

When this Gand with Thirteen step at the edge of the swamp and relay his message back into it, this Gand is fairly sure he sees the movement of one or two creatures back in the mist. After a moment some chirps and whistles are heard and Thirteen translates "It said they would have taken the meat anyway, but that they are surprised that we speak their language. It says they will hold off attacking as we speak with their language, but that we must leave the forest and these mountains. That the demon's are awakening..."

"Which brings us to our presence here," Kacela says smoothly. "It's not just to prevent your men from accidentally committing genocide."

She was careful to try to frame the situation with the mercenaries being held blameless. The implication being that if they stopped now, there'd be no consequences for them.

"It's because, as with many other cases of indigenous religious beliefs, the Kwi legends have some basis in fact. There IS something in the mountains that Czerka is trying to mine. Something ancient, and profoundly dangerous. And if it 'awakens,' as the Kwi fear it will, we will all be in grave danger."

"The question of your payment is one that can and will be settled with Czerka, by the Republic, as they enlisted your men to perform an illegal act. Though they protest ignorance, the intensity with which they attempted to cover up evidence suggests otherwise."

Cass seem to want to argue but in the end sighs loudly and says "So long as the cred comes from somewhere. I guess that's what lawyers are for?"

He stands up and goes and talks to the other mercenaries for a few minutes and comes back "OK we agree. The corp doped us. We don't want any part in some native genocide that could be brought up in some legal Republic courts. Well stand down so long as there are no more attacks that can justify our bounties. But we are without any vehicles except the speederbike and it only carries two people. Your landspeeder looks pretty full also. It will take us the better part of a day for the rest of us to walk out of here. How do we know the... natives wont attack us? You going to bring in the law if we have to defend ourselves?"

"Your weapons have stun settings, yes? Use them."

She nodded though. The mercenary had a point.

"We'll escort you out. We have a means of communicating with the Kwi. If it looks like hostilities are about to begin, we'll attempt to dissuade them. If they cannot be, we will defend ourselves as we must, with a minimum use of force as is necessary."

"Thank you for understanding. I'll make sure note is taken in the official report."
