Escorting Garnell inside, the group heads for the lounge.
The gand follows back up the ramp -- somewhat hesitant and clearly uncomfortable with this particular turn of event... drone warble mumble clicketty hum-whirr "Would U7-C4 stand ready to start the shields," clack drone warble clacketty slurr click "And perhaps take off at short notice, please?" it covertly 'whispers' as they go by the tan-and-white utility droid in the corridor...

===

After Garnell Fel's speech, there is a small silence, then the little alien standing by the bridge-side door to the lounge tilts her chitinous head.

jumble clack clacketty slutrr, jumble drone mumble whirr click "Would Garnell Fel be interested in knowing that captain Gomak kept notes?"

[sblock=Speaking of]From about three weeks ago, game time:

The team spends the rest of the day exploring and cleaning their new ship. C-Four seemed to have done a pretty good job of maintaining the ship without any aid and limited resources. They discover four more hidden holds, an extra explosive devise of the type used to sabotage the mainport gate and all the various notes and datapads of the former Captain, stashed in another secret compartment in his cabin.

The datapads have various information on them, mostly about various smuggler routes, the value of various less then legal items and materials, contacts at various space ports and smuggler dens. Going through them the team discovers that the pirates where working for a crime-lord by the name of Jedco Sternestorm. His hidden base is supposed to be located on the planet Corstris (When Jihahna cleans up C-Four this is also the planet he has been programmed to jump too). This planet is also in the Quelii Sector, the same sector as the planet Dathomir. Thus the jump is less than a day long. Captain Gomak’s notes say that someone who appeared to be the Sith Spy they just killed had come to the crime lords base just a couple of weeks ago with a plan. He was going to arrange for a number of ships to be carrying thorilide and would also arrange for the Empire to purchase the cargo for at least 500,000 credits. Captain Gomak and Jedco were going to split this 50/50, with Gomak also getting to keep one transport and the rest going to the Crime Lord.

The Kessel's Kiss Spice (the - it turns out - highly addictive, sweet-smelling powder they found) was supposed to be delivered to a crime lord by the name of Dolgo the Hutt on Cathar, another planet in the Quelii Sector. From the notes they found, Gomak was doing the crime lord a favor for some past misdeed. The information provides the location of Dolgo's hideout on Cathar, a partially submerged city in the planet's main ocean.[/sblock]

Garnell smiles down to this Gand, adding "And what if he did? My employer hired him to do a job as the late captain was a well know pirate and smuggler in some sectors of society and that he had contracts with the Hutt crimelord."

GM: I got my Hutt Crime Lords mixed up as my original idea for him changed. Sorry about the confusion there. The crime lord whom hired Gomak however is different, but Jihahna can make an Intelligence (Galactic Lore) skill check to remember something else

OOC: could we get an updated version of those three paragraphs then, GK (i.e. what they found on the captured datapads exactly)? The gand's trust in Garnell as a source of info is... very limited let us say. :)

Jihahna listened as Garnell spoke. She nods at the confirmation the initial information was correct, but then came mention of the name Gotan.

Her heart skipped several beats. Her eyelids widened in sudden shock as shooting pain and tension swept into a vortex in her chest.

She was trying to keep her composure, the shaking beginning in her chest, then her hands, then her whole body.

Her paranoia kicked in. She knew Gotan really wanted information in exchange for the spice. What if it involved her new identity? He must have tracked her down! She knew it! She couldn't escape him! Who was she kidding... She was no Jedi. She was a wannabe. A nobody who was trying to turn things around, holding onto a crumbling dream, destined to return to the filth and corruption that is Axxila.

She would not escape. She could not escape. The only possible way she could ever free of her past would be to-

Her shaking ceased. She raised her head, looking Garnell in the eyes. The cold voice of a professional came from her lips.

"Garnell Fel. Let's be honest here. I imagine you've assumed already with a Jedi on board that we would not in any way participate in the smuggling and distribution of spice? That such a substance must be seized and destroyed under Republic law?"

She takes a few steps towards him, ready to strike at her target if he makes a move.

"Am I to assume that even if we were to disagree with you, slaughter your men and take off, that we would be pursued by both Jericho's and Gotan's forces?"

She pauses a moment, analysing his combat stance, his confidence, his composure... Meeting his eyes again, she speaks clearly for all to hear.

"If the answer would be yes, then I may have a suitable alternative..."

She states these last words with a brief pause, the raising of her shoulders and her attempt to see her friends through her peripheral vision. Perhaps she was waiting to see if they might give her the go-ahead with said suggestion... But she didn't take her eyes of Garnell. His response here could be violent.

Kacela glanced at Jihahna with a little surprise, but kept her face smooth. She hadn't expected the white bantha in the room to be pointed out so early...but done was done, and it would have gotten here eventually she supposed.

"To clarify," she said mildly, "We're not looking to 'slaughter' anyone. We will, however, defend ourselves if need be."

Jihahna took a breath in at Kacela's comment. She had forgotten already. It was so easy to make a mistake.

"Yeah, I guess I meant 'mop the floor with you'.... Look, if this is only going to end one way, then we'll be enemies with your boss AND Gotan right? Maybe we just have to... Deal with Gotan.... But having us deliver spice to him is not an option... You know that..."

Jihahna tightens her grip around her blaster rifle... "Otherwise, as Kacela said, be warned, we WILL defend ourselves!"

She looks awkward momentarily and turns back to Kacela, half whispering...

"It just doesn't sound very threatening to these guys... It's not 'Cartel' lingo...."

Garnell seems unconcerned by Jihahna's and Kacela's talk, his smile never leaving his face. After a moment he says "You can assume anything you wish but the facts of the situation are as follows... Mr. Melstrum is a man of honor. He sees the delivery of the... cargo... to Gotan the Hutt as a point of honor. He said that he would deliver it and he means too. Gotan the Hutt also believes that in order to maintain his standing within his society that 'deals' matter. If someone says that they are going to make a payment or a delivery that they are going to make it."

"Whether the Republic agrees or disagrees with this particular cargo is not Mr. Melstrum's concern. He is working for the betterment of the people of Axxila. He expects that you will honor the pledges he has made and fulfill them whether you are Jedi or not."

"If you refuse this... matter of honor you do so at your own peril. Mr. Melstrum's hands will be tied. He will be forced to take some form of action, if for no other reason then to satisfy his sense of honor. Gotan the Hutt will likely act in a far less respectable or reasonable way. I am sorry to say that he also knows about the... transfer of ownership of the Outlaw Gambit, and if he wishes to maintain his standing within his own... community... he also will act against you..."

"Doesn't it seem like a more reasonable action would be simply to deliver the cargo and not think over much about what it might be but instead consider what it represents -- a better future of the people of a war-torn planet. Investing in their future and not allowing your own sense of right or wrong interfer with what is best for them?"

Second Update - Cathar at this time is still trying to recover from the destruction caused during the Battle of Cathar some 300 years ago during the Mandalorian Neo-Crusades. The Cathar were almost driven to extinction during this time and have re-settled in only a few places onworld. Much of the planet is uninhabited and as such the rule of law is only enforced in a few places.[/sblock]

"The pledge he has made is not our concern," Kacela said. "Your employer's business is, like any business, a balancing act of risk and reward. Entrusting his cargo to the former owner of our ship was a risk. One, it seems, he did not take wisely."

"Therefore, I propose a compromise. His cargo will be returned to him. He can then use whatever resources he has at hand to make good on his agreement and satisfy his sense of honor. This is, of course, a violation of Republic law...but a far lesser one than delivering it ourselves would be."

"Would Mr. Melstrum be amenable to this?"

Jor Dan bristled at the thought of returning the highly addictive substance to those who would distribute it, hearing the suggestion through his mind link with Kacela.

-I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that,- he said to her telepathically. -But if you can get them to take the cargo and leave you alone, perhaps I can follow and make sure the substance is not distributed.-
