D&D 5E (IC) Vault of the Dracolich (Dispensables)

"As long as it pumps into my veins, not on the walls...

To help with the darkness, I can grease the whole thing by the way. The problem is more behind us, what if Silakul breach in from the west?"

OOC: Do you rule Grease to be inflammable like oil is?

Eko does his best to follow Silakul, (certain he would be spotted by the Dracolich if he went the other way, (who is still there when Silakul leaves), but can't get through the doors before the guards close them and return to vigilance. He narrowly avoids their gaze as he returns to the shelter of the rafters.

Drako nodded his head, “Whatever we do, we best do it soon, I can cover a retreat with darkness or cold around one of the doors, but from what you are telling me it sounds like we will have a fight on our hands before it comes to that.”

Drako listens to the chanting outside one of the doors trying to identify it.

OOC: The chanting was Cultists placing a deadly ward on door 3. It's powerful, but the Genasi brothers are sure they can disrupt the trigger long enough to use the door, if you go that way. In some ways, that would be the door they probably wouldn't expect you to come from. You ought to die if you try it.

Sesto shakes his head. I don't like this idea. With magical darkness in the doorway we won't see what's coming through either. Too much of a surprise for me. And the fire will also create smoke and toxic fumes. Not good in confined spaces.
Sesto also walks over to the opposite door to listen. After a few moments he says Maybe we should try this door. They wouldn't expect that. And if Pyrus and his brother can stop the ward...

"I'm ok for both ways but am I the only one concerned by the fact that if we stay here fighting one group, we will be overwhelmed by the other one? About that, there is 3 doors, they can storm us from everywhere.

So my best bet is to leave this temple to take the fight where we can control more their movement. But if you prefer to stay here, I'll give you my 2 coppers.

Can we create a cone-shaped corridor, maybe with the temple's benches, with only one narrow exit pointing to us to reverse the number at our advantage.

I vote for darkness + oil. But we can't face 3 fronts so we must be sure they can't enter by the other doors.

If it is possible to disable the ward, maybe we can hijack the trap to make it burst when they'll open the door to flank us.

We must block the south door with everything we have left, even bodies.

Whatever you decide, during the fight, don't stand on the Bhaal symbol, it's bad luck. Trust me I'm a wizard."

Sure enough, the Cult begins an all-out assault at the southern door (#2). In many ways, it is the most secure door, but if they breach it, it will allow them to move the most men through at once. The mercenaries begin battering at the door with rams, while cultists chant and send bolts of necrotic energy, ageing the wood and rusting the metal. The door won't hold for long.

OOC: Better make a more-firm decision soon!

"Executive decision," Terrus says, ignoring his brother and moving to the warded door. "We're going through here. Perhaps we can interrupt the trigger long enough for us to get through, but then reset it so anyone who follows will get a nasty surprise."

Terrus heads to the door and begins seeing how difficult it would be to interrupt the trigger. He looks to his brother with a glare until Pyrus relents and joins him.

(I think we already rolled for this, but let me know if I need to roll anything.)

While they work, Bob starts taking benches from the chosen door and moving them to the southern door to improve the bracing effect.

Squirrels are evil!

Drako flashes a grin glad that a decision has been made, as soon as he realizes what Bob is doing he helps him move benches to help brace the southern door.
