D&D 5E (2014) (IC) Vault of the Dracolich (Infiltrators)

Ok, said Sesto and grabbed the drink. Come a little closer, Sesto gestured, but not too close. We don't want to set of the acid trap again.
I don't know if you can reach with your extra hand but you can start with the ring over there, next to that odd looking statue
. Sesto pointed into the room.
Wait, not so fast. I want to take cover over there before you grab the ring. I don't know what the protecting rune will do... Sesto take cover.

Problems occur to everyone watching as Lorenn directs his Mage Hand: The extent of Lorenn's 'reach' with the hand is thirty feet, and the only object that close from the archway (without getting doused) is the cloak, and it might not survive getting soaked in acid.

OOC: I realise that Detect Magic should also only go 30 feet, and it's actually 50 feet from the arch to the far wall. I didn't think of it at the time Sesto found all the stuff, so we'll just assume that Lathander made it go further, shall we?

Udit scraches his chin again - he now hasn't shaved in over a week and is looking even scruffier than normal

"Well, uh... that problem is easy to solve, sort of. The trap sprays acid that is then collected in this shallow pool and re-used. We just need to bundle together a few cloaks or something to absorb the acid and then trigger the trap, same way we did the the darts earlier. Trap runs try, and, uh, tada"

OOC: to GM: Does this actually make sense? I don't know how much acid there was exactly....

OOC: That outta do it. I'd require some kinda Dex check (slight-of-hand, thieves' tools, or the like) to do it without getting yourself with the acid. DC is 13. To disarm the Glyphs, Arcana like Fradak rolled will work, but you have to get at them first (which you can just walk up to them if the Acid is disarmed.)

Udit cracked his knuckle

"Ok let's do this folks..."

He began assembling another "target bundle", making sure nothing too valuable was in there - but absorbent materials. He supposed he was going to need another bedroll...

He tossed the thing onto the arch, attached with a rope, and cast a minor illusion on top for good measure

thieve tools to deal with acid archway trap: 1D20+9 = [20]+9 = 29

"Thank you, thank you very much. Please grab me, uh, a gold bar or fat gem will you?"

With Udit's bedroll destroyed, so was the acid trap. The group was able to pilfer as many of the items as they could easily carry, with Lorenn disrupting the magical glyphs as they went. The group returned to the Alchemist's laboratory in triumph to be welcomed by their resting (but growing restless) companions.

Imani, who had been monitoring progress with his own scrying methods, spoke over the sending stones: "My friends, you have surpassed my expectations in your valiant efforts! Now yet there is still the core task to be done! The Diamond Staff of Chomylla lies within the most inner vault. Beyond the wards which require the use of the Bhaalite Idols, I expect you to meet strong resistance. The foul Dracolich Dretchroyaster will not leave his person unguarded while he sleeps! I suggest you break into two groups: One whose task it will be to recover the Staff, and the other who will stand against the dracolich's minions. I will begin to prepare a teleport circle to return you all to the safety of the base-camp when the task is complete."

OOC: I believe some of you may still have scrolls of Identify for the items you got.

OOC: Udit wants gold/gems sufficient to at *least*

1: buy his potions stock again
2: buy a new bedroll
3: be worth more than Imani's silverware.

Udit looked at the magical items.

"So... uh... what do we have here?"

To Imani, in the sending stone "Imani, uh, does the group that has to fetch the staff have to face the dragon, or one of its projection?"

Udit slipped into his pocket a nice, fat red gemstone (worth 500 gold) and a handful of platinum coins (14 of them). He'd never actually seen a platinum coin, but he'd heard that the Trader's Bank would take them. He thought that would do, and not weigh him down too much, but he couldn't stop himself from adding a flat green gemstone (worth 300 gold) that caught his eye just before he turned to leave.

Imani's voice cracked as he replied, "It is my desire that no one will be forced to face the Dracolich! It is very likely (based on what we now know) that you will have to fight another simulacrum, but the true dragon is, not so much asleep as I told you previously, but instead locked in psychic battle with both the staff herself and the elemental node. This I have discovered while you have valiantly vanquished the cultists and the mercenaries. It is more clearly understood, but changes very little - you are still safest if you don't 'wake' the dragon."
