Ideas about how the seven layers of Numer work

G'baal

First Post
Ok, this thread is just to post out an idea or two on how the gates and layers of Numer work. I need this cleared up asap so that I can continue writing the piece of work on the Yogsathoth story. Ok...here it goes.

My idea is...There are seven layers and each has seven gates, ok, good. Now, my idea for them is about crossing the gate inot that layer. What I was thinking (it would save alot of time too) is that, for example, gate one, The gate of Nazir leads to Aqaaba, the first layer of Numer. Ok, what about Aqaaba? What is it like? How is it shaped? Yada yada yada. Here it is...each layer is like a layer ontop of (or in this case below) the actual DF world. Basically, you take the DF maps...take the general ideas about the place meaning natural things such as forests, mountains and you change them or get rid of them to fit the layer. Remove all prior signs of civilization and you get your layer...looking somewhat similiar in shape to the DF world but screwed up in another sense that there are no forests, no rivers or lakes, no grass and nothing but mountains, sand and sun (for Aqaaba of course). Im not sure if this is clear or not but I hope so. Another example would be perhaps layer two...Mithrask. From the description of it I would say it is a land of continuous night with the moon as an eternal sun. The lands to the points N, S, E, W are all cold waste lands while the central part of this layer is full of fogged swamps and tar pits, bogs, and marshes. So, for example, if you went to Mithrask (following a map of the true DF world) you would end up where the Kessel should be but rather it would be different as it would be either frozen wastelands or swamps, marshes, and bogs depending on how far towards the east you were. I think that is good to go now so Im goin on to the next part of my idea.Ok...you pass the first gate and go to Aqaaba...wow, deserts everywhere...and very little civilization abouyt (as all the major daemon civilizations on Aqaab would probably be underground out of the sun unless they liked the temperature). Now, what about the second gate? My idea is this...each gate can be opened and passed in sequential order 1, 2, 3...thus meaning in the layer of Aqaaba, the second gate resides somewhere...and in Mithrask, the second layer is the third gate and so on so forth. You open gate one to the world...so there are 6 gates left that cannot access the world. Each gate must be opened from the outside. Someone such as Draako must open each gate to the world one at a time, one layer at a time. Anyways, Im trying to get it. I would like some one to try to read and understand this garble...and if need be give me some ideas or suggestions. I like the idea but it has to be clear for you. Can you understand it?

Though I like the door Idea each Layer in my mind when I wrote that was totally and completely different than the DF Map, Totally

Aqaaba for example is an endless desert with a temperature about that of the surface of venus, so since they say Venus is like true hell there you go the Daemons do not live underground but rather in Great Big enclosed fortresses or in villages along rivers of lava There is no sun it is a Pink grey cloud cover that covers Aqaaba

Mithrask is dark, it is a land of moonlight for sure but not because of a Moon in the sky it is also covered in a pale blue cloud cover
In Mithrask it is swampy, and sinking sand pits abound, also the Great Pit of Numer sits like a moot around the Fortress of Terag-eOr-Anoum where the Dark Panthenon sits to watch the Blood Arena, and to suppervise the training of their armies.

Etc.

Anyway to tired to type to much right now, again pain steals the show.

I dont think you understand me...each layer IS different from the DF world but it is somewhat similair. For example, the Fingers of Darkness...that mountain chain would still exsist but beyond mountains there is nothing but desert wasteland understand? It is different save for the formation, the shape of the land thats all. The climate is definately different, the ecosystme would be to...all is different except for land shape. That is what I am trying to say. Now, I think it is clearer anyways so Ill leave it at that and see what you say to it. On a more personal note, I have ALOT of new stuff pertaining to Yogsathoths past telling how he came to power and fitting in with DF's present. Im just piecing it together bit by bit. Anyways, let me know ifyou get me now. Thanks.

I did understand you,

And as I said I see each level of Numer as completely different than the DAEMONFORGE

So there is no Fingers of Darkness, There is no Kessel

it is a completely different landscape with completely different features. Or at least that is how I pictured it in my head,

Lol, personally, Im not sure if you do understand. All Im saying is that landshape is the same. Climate, places, everything else is different. The fingers of darkness would not be called so there and would not have the mists about it. The place where the kessel would be in DF would not be the kessel in any sense of the word save for landshape. All Im trying to do is give the layers a shape and then everything else can be altered as the layer itself is altered by those whom live there. Deserts everywhere, barren wastes...dry, sand worn mountains reaching up to the sun. The dust storms countinuing to ravage the lands forever more. Pass through the gate of Nazir and one steps across into the layer of Aqaaba...all that one sees is sand altered by waves of heat all the way to the horizon. Now, all I am sayign is land shape which means things such as hills, mountains, valleys, and what not. Other then that all else is different. I think it would be a good idea to make it as such so that we can use the map of DF in ouir descriptions of where places would be in each layer. It would save alot of time when it comes down to it, though, if it is to much of a hassle we can ignore that idea altogether but then we really wont know where the places we mention actaully are in each layer of Numer. Thats all this is about. Anyways, read this and give me a reply on it. I just want this worked out for the best thats all. I dont want to wreck anyones visions.

You Do own the MOP right???

Oh well I was prolly going to give it an actuall layered picture of landmasses

With each layer rendered

As such

Aqaaba
--------Mithrask
------------ Yogsaard
------------------Sethras

And dahdedah

For one there is one whole layer that is a massive hive city of daemons lost souls, and unnamed horrors

Ok, I get you Sidran and Ill leave it as you say. It was just a thought and I wanted to brush it past you thats all. Anyways, I will go with what you said. But one thing...do we still have each gate within the other layer idea? You know...the gate of nazir is the connector of the world to Aqaaba, a gate in Aqaaba to Mithrask etc. Can we at least keep that? I think juts having that would be neat. As for the layers...keep it as you say. By the way, I do not have the MOP as I do not play enough to really go out and buy supplements for the game. I am a creator, an imaginitive person trying to impose my ideas upon a developing world. Although, saving some money for the MOP wouldnt be hard to do so maybe I will get it in the future (sounds interesting). Anways, the planes then will need to be created as a team effort...at least the ideas about what they should be like such as the descriptions of each layer as I am sure we all see something different. I need the stuff for the work. Anyways, any descriptions and info you want to post on the layers do so so I can collect it all for the work. I will also begin dreaming up ideas of the layers and post at a later date here. Thanks.

I am running my players through the Layer of Fenyaronde It has been a lot of fun (seeing as I use that Layer as My Homebrew World,

Not much more besides those quick descriptions for Info though.

Ok then...Ill try to elaborate on those descriptions and run them by you in this thread ok? Anyways, I wanted to tell you of the seven Anuuk'il, the guardians of the gates of numer. Basically, I want to cover the access of a gate in general (I got some real stats, items, and rituals for gate passing but Ill post those later). Ok...here goes an example of crossing a gate, basically, the gate of Nazir. First of all there is the colossal archway, this resides in the world and is the place for where the door way or gate is to open to the first layer of numer, aqaaba. Anyways, after the requirements for the gate opeing are done, within the archway is a shimmering mirror-like force...somewhat resembling water though it is crystal clear. When one passes through they end up in a completely black dark realm with only two points of light...the gate behind them (acting like a onw way mirror looking out on the world) and the gate leading to aqaaba which is also like a one way mirror looking onto aqaaba. This realm is completely black and one feels a weightlessness as they float forward towards either door as they desire. Within this realm though exsists the guardian of that specific gate. It is on of the seven Anuuk'il. The Anuuk'il appear as large lich-like humanoids with sickly green skin that is pulled taught over their bones. They are garbed in long dark grey cloaks covered in golden glowing runes. There head has one big empty socket for one eye but all that is within is a pin point of crimson red light. The Anuuk'il always carry a large brilliant energy short spear as a weapon. The purpose of the Anuuk'il is to decide whom goes in or out of the gates. The Anuuk'il will let numerian fiends pass in and out without meeting them but as for others they will come to them and cut them off from the opposite gate until requirements are met. The Anuuk'il will ask questions and ask for things in return for access to the gate. Also, while they are querying those people, they detect the thoughts, emotions, and alignments of the beings. If the beings wish to harm any being of numer, are of good alignment, or anything of that like, the Anuuk'il will forbid access to the gate. If the person continues and attacks the Anuuk'il, it will attack back. The stats for an Anuuk'il I will create sooner or later and post in the monster ideas thread. Somethings for one to know though is that the Anuuk'il are immortal and cannot truly be destroyed as they are part of the gates of numer. The Anuuk'il cannot leave their posts. The Anuuk'ils favoured attack is there death gaze attack. Anyways, that is how it is like for each gate. Just thought Id add that so you can all know. Ill get to working on the Annuk'il stats immediately. Thanks.

Sounds good but elaborate on the Lich like beings

( I would personally make them more like Stone Demonshapes (such as Vampiric Gargoyles or sumpth'in )

Thanks

Sid
