If it's the DM's job to make sure the player's have fun...What is the PLAYER'S job?

Inspired by the " http://www.enworld.org/forum/genera...ts-not-gms-job-make-sure-people-have-fun.html " thread...and a fair number of people disagreeing (i.e. saying that it IS the DM's job).

Let's assume it IS the DM's job to make sure the players have fun. What, then, is the player's job?
It is the DM's job to make sure the Players have fun.

It is the Player's job to make sure the DM and the other Players have fun.

Seriously though- It's like when you go to a party at someone's house...

It's the Host's (Dm) job to try to provide an entertaining spot, and work to see everyone is having fun.

It's the attendee's (players) job not to be a jackass, so that everyone can have fun.

Pizza? Nope.
Beer? Nope. (I should give them bonus XP if they did this)
Hookers? Nope.
Blow? Nope.
Pencils? Nope.
Dice? Check
Character Sheets? Check (but only cause I keep them)
Memory of the Campaign? Check (they do a decent job of taking notes)
Fun for the DM? Check

Oddly enough, if I answered this question 3 years ago when I had different players, the answers would have been in the exact opposite order.

The player & DMs job really depends on the gaming style you enjoy and the group you play with. A lot of people said that it is the DMs job to make sure we're having fun. But as a player myself, I have fun just getting to play and I can definitely make the game fun as a player. All I need the DM to do is be able to roll with the punches and provide me with some sort of plot if I'm unable to stir one up myself. If he goes above & beyond to spice things up, that's just a perk as far as I'm concerned.

I don't show up at the game with the attitude, "The DM better show me a good time, or else I'm quitting this group." In fact, I don't even have that attitude when I show up at a party. If that's the way I looked at life, then I probably wouldn't game or go to parties, cause most people are pretty damn boring ;) It's the group dynamic & party atmosphere that make it fun, not just a single person.
